You’re watching something—a great movie, a profound documentary, a news report about a genocide in Africa—you feel something . . . you’re seeing your self, your culture, your values with fresh eyes . . . you’re going to live your life differently because of this thing you see . . . maybe you mumble the beginnings of an inner vow to yourself . . . tears are welling up in your eyes . . . and then BANG! . . . an ad snaps the spell.
This is one of those mind-fucking psychic-rupture moments where the neuropathways in your brain get torn up like overpasses in an earthquake.
And then it happens again . . . and again . . . and again, day after day, aftershock after aftershock.
Don’t kid yourself, each time it happens your emotional capacity is incrementally blunted. Your ability to feel humbled is diminished. You grow a tad colder, you get a bit more closed-minded, a little more cynical, a little more soul shocked and spiritually vacant . . . until one day, half way through your life, you gaze out into the world and can’t feel much of anything anymore.
Deirdre Davi has just joined Facebook as director of North American business marketing, where she will help “marketers understand how Facebook can drive results and develop go-to-market strategies for key product updates, initiatives, and more to support sales goals.”
She joins Facebook from Sterling Brands, where she served as executive vice president for 11 and a half years. At that position, Davi developed and maintained relationships with brands like Google, Intel and T-Mobile, partnering with these and other brands “to develop audience understanding, positioning strategy, and recommendations for products, initiatives, and programs.” For the past five years she has worked almost exclusively with Google on marketing and driving sales, as well as increasing “their thought leadership visibility and advertising revenue.”
Previously, Davi was co-founder and chief operating officer at software company Plurimi, where she was responsible for overseeing all daily operations and functional areas, including “sales and marketing, engineering and product management, client services and financial management.”
Jogue num liquidificador: Florence + The Machine, Bat For Lashes e Lorde. Misture bem.
Twitter announced earlier this week that it would start letting users share up to four photos within a single tweet, as well as tag up to 10 other users in a photo in a Facebook-like way.
Some early-adopting brands are already experimenting with the ability to share more photos — which appear in a collage format underneath the text of a tweet — and effectively pack their tweets with more content.
The new features are a continuation of Twitter’s efforts to give tweets more visual impact and another step away from the spareness and simplicity the service was known for back when a post could include only 140 characters and nothing else.
Alguém vai passar a noite relendo contrato hoje.
The New York Times has named Texas Monthly Editor-in-Chief Jake Silverstein as the new editor of The New York Times Magazine, the company said Friday. He will oversee a redesign of the magazine.
The hire caps off a three-month review of the magazine by Times Managing Editor Dean Baquet and T magazine editor Deborah Needleman. When Times Executive Editor Jill Abramson announced the review in December, she said she owed staff “more clarity on how the magazine relates to the rest of our news report and how it can be the most distinctive, edifying, pleasurable part of our news offerings.”
The Times had sought a new editor for the magazine after Hugo Lindgren exited the role in November.

Taco Bell encouraged real men with a famous name to testify! “I am Ronald McDonald and I love Taco Bell’s new breakfasts,” several real Ronalds repeat into the camera.
This new campaign from Deutsch LA is not exactly brilliant, but it may breakthrough. And breakthrough is what it is going take to loosen McDonald’s grip on the morning hours—McD’s currently dominates with 31 percent of sales. Egg McMuffin ain’t no joke.
Ad Age’s reading of NPD data indicates that breakfast in 2013 logged its fourth consecutive year of growth for restaurants, while lunch and dinner continue to decline. Fast food, which accounts for 80% of total restaurant morning meals, showed the strongest growth, with a 4% increase over the prior year. And the forecast looks good: NPD estimates that fast-food breakfast will grow a cumulative 9% over the next nine years.
According to Nation’s Restaurant News, the hot item on Taco bell’s breakfast menu is expected to be the waffle taco—a waffle that cradles scrambled eggs and a sausage patty and is served with a packet of syrup for $1.79.
An Instagram post by a customer who stumbled across the waffle taco went viral, sparking about 4 million impressions.
Berlin Cameron United’s new campaign for Gilt features a chase scene and some unusual disrobing.
Upon sighting a model in a sleek yellow dress, a woman decides she can’t live without the outfit and chases after her. The model frantically runs away, because that’s what you do when you’re pursued by a woman with a crazy look in her eye. Appropriately set to the song “Suit” by Boom! Bap! Pow!, which features lyrics like “You’re so cute, I want to wear you like a suit. I think you’d look pretty good on me,” the chase concludes with the woman accessing Gilt’s site on her smartphone. This causes the dress to seamlessly slide off the model and on to the chaser, leaving the model in her underwear. While a tad on the ridiculous side, the spot shows off the instant gratification of shopping on the designer fashion site in a fun way. The 30-second ad, which went up on YouTube today, will spread to television on Monday, reports Adweek. Credits after the jump. continued…

Never heard of the “Crimean Spring?” That’s probably because you haven’t been watching Russian TV lately.
As troops have occupied Crimea in recent weeks, Russian TV has depicted President Vladimir Putin’s annexation as an awakening that saved the region from being overrun by fascists — part of a propaganda effort rivaling the machine that shaped public opinion a generation ago.
“What’s happening now with state media and especially TV is unprecedented, even for the Soviet era,” said Tatiana Vorozheykina, lead researcher at the Levada Center in Moscow, Russia’s only independent polling company. “These are propaganda instruments and no one hides it.”
