Royal London Society for the Blind (RLSB): Everybody Technology

Technology allows us to do more, experience more and achieve more. But currently the benefits aren’t universally shared. Mainstream products are too often designed without disabled users in mind.
RLSB have created the Everybody Technology initiative to raise awareness of the issue by encouraging technology developers to serve the needs of people with disability, promoting their inclusion and realising their potential. Brief: Promote the Everybody Technology initiative by creating an online film. Idea: In a single, gradual camera move back, we reveal many different people sat in chairs, changing one after another. They are men, women and children, from different cultures, backgrounds and disabilities, who all appear to be speaking the words of Professor Stephen Hawking’s call for Everybody Technology. The film featured volunteers of all abilities, including a true example of someone who has benefited from Everybody Technology. Matt Goodsell is a sufferer of cerebral palsy, yet communicates fantastically via an iPad.

Delta Lingerie: A One-Time Sale

Our brief was to promote “a one-time sales proposition on lingerie”; what we did is film a 10-second, sexy and teasing video clip of our model getting dressed with Delta’s Lingerie. To gain authenticity, the video clip was filmed by the model’s agent and was shot 100% on Facebook Poke, then sent to the model’s Facebook fans through the app. The Call-To-Action at the end of the video reads “A One-Time Sale! Delta.” And directs users to Delta’s website, where they can claim their discount on the specific garment the model was wearing. Technically we had a hard time dealing with this campaign, for once, you can’t save any of the videos and you can only do a one shot clip. We also had a hard time with the fact that you can only send a Poke to up to 40 people at once, which means for every 40 people we had to shoot a new version. (This happens because the app deletes all data from both iPhone’s the second the video was sent).

SPAR Ireland: Christmas 2012

Christmas trees were put up all over Ireland by nationwide convenience store SPAR. Conveniently, the logo for SPAR is a green tree! From the beautiful Beara peninsula to bustling Middle Abbey Street, the commercial was shot over 5 days by Irish directingduo, D.A.D.D.Y and set to a cover of The Raveonette’s ‘The Christmas Song’ by Irish musicians Jape and Gemma Hayes. No trees were hurt in the filming.

Adidas and TBWA set out to change a piece of retail forever. To put shopping into window shopping. To turn any store front window into a completely functional virtual store, that would connect with any smartphone, without the need of an app or QR code reader and a complete end-to-end purchase experience. Why are you an Illustrator?
From College time the topic in which I found my interest was illustration. I started experimenting and creating various styles in it, it was all fun and fantasy doing illustrations. I found out that I can do much more with illustrations….so here I have reached….as an Illustrator.

Did you attend school for fine art or design?
Yes, I have completed my Applied Art from L.S. Raheja School of Art, Bandra.

You have a distinct style of illustration. How long did it take you to develop your style?
Actually it can’t be measured in time. Each and every time I keep on trying for some different illustration styles, but once it is cracked…nothing like that.

Were there any particular role models for you when you grew up?
None in particular, but have got inspiration from many people in some or the other way.

Who was the most influential personality on your career in Illustrations?
Deelip Khomane.

Have you worked for advertising campaigns? When did you start freelancing?
Yes, I have worked for advertising campaigns. I used to work on small freelancing projects while working in an agency , but have started full fledged freelancing a year before.

Are many advertising agencies getting illustrations made these days? Do you work more with agencies or publishers?
Yes  they do, currently I am working on a fashion brand.
I have worked more with agencies.

Was there any time when you wanted to quit Illustrations?
No, never

Have you considered turning your illustrations into toys?
No, I have not, but now I think it’s a great idea.

Any other Indian Illustrators who you admire?
Mario Miranda , R. K. Laxman.

Do you have any favorite fellow illustrators or resources relating to your fields?
Pranav Bhide and Avinash Bhalerao.

What advice do you have for aspiring creative professionals? Would you advise them to take on Illustration as a career option? Is it paying well enough?
In creative field we need to deal with creative ideas everyday, Always observe the things around you, as inspiration can be taken from anything. So, try not to forget whatever you observe.

Well, in illustration you can develop your own style, you can enjoy a lot doing illustration if you take it as a play and not work.

Yes it pays well, but then again it depends on the quality of work you provide.
Sometimes, the client want to invest less in project, but if the work you think is interesting you can go for it, at least you can get a good work for your portfolio.

Tell us something about one of your personal projects
I like to experiment various things, I like to do photography and short films whenever I get time.

What is your dream project?
Illustration on dreams.
