Microsoft's Super Bowl ad for Xbox stars children with disabilities


Microsoft is returning to the Super Bowl with an ad showing children with disabilities playing video games with the Xbox adaptive controller.

The 60-second spot, which will air in the fourth quarter, showecases children who don’t have full use over their hands and arms playing video games. The ad was created by McCann Worldgroup. The company released a 90-second version of the ad today.

“Our intent with our ads is to illustrate a product and a human truth and deliver on our mission of empowering every person and organization on the planet to achieve more,” Kathleen Hall, corporate VP, brand, advertising and research, Microsoft, said in a statement. “In this instance, the Xbox Adaptive Controller helps the children enhance their gaming experience and compete in new ways. What better message for a premiere sporting event?”

Sprint teams Bo Jackson with mermaid, flying horse in Super Bowl return


Sprint is teaming its gang of robots with former NFL and MLB all-star Bo Jackson for its third straight Super Bowl appearance.

The 30-second spot, produced by creative agency Droga5 (in its third straight Super Bowl with Sprint) once again takes aim at Verizon and AT&T for the companies’ high prices.

The company claims a family plan of four can save AT&T and Verizon customers $1,000 a year if they switch to Sprint.

SimpliSafe plays on America's fears in Super Bowl teaser


Creepy men in the cul-de-sac, stolen packages and footprints in the backyard are just some of the fears security system SimpliSafe plays upon in its teaser for its first Super Bowl commercial.

The company will run a 30-second spot at the end of the first quarter. SimpliSafe worked with Austin-based agency Preacher on the ad and director Matt Aselton of Arts & Sciences.

This marks the first time a home security company will air a Super Bowl ad, according to SimpliSafe.

Colbert delivers the ultimate spoof of Super Bowl commercial cliches


The “Dead Boy,” first made famous in Nationwide’s widely derided Super Bowl ad 2015, lives again in a new riff from Stephen Colbert that spoofs all the commercial tropes of the Big Game.

On Wednesday, the host of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert debuted what he called “The Most Emotionally Manipulative Super Bowl Ad Ever.”

“The Super Bowl commercials are not afraid to pull on the nation’s heartstrings to move their products,” said Colbert, noting spots of reunited families, impressive athletes and unlikely animal friendships. “And how could anyone forget the actual Super Bowl ad, the Super Bowl of sad Super Bowl adsthe one where the kid was actually dead the whole time?”
