‘Surviving High School’ Rises to Head of Mobile-Gaming Class

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) — Vivendi Games Mobile has reinvented the old choose-your-own-adventure genre, and in doing so has struck mobile-gaming gold. The game's popularity has spawned forums, Facebook groups and a slew of online communities embodying the kind of engagement that makes marketers drool. And while "Surviving High School" isn't currently being supported by advertising, its episodic format makes it an almost ideal vehicle for brand underwriting. The question is, will marketers get involved in these kinds of projects?

Losing value, the penny still keeps its pride

Pennies
As inflation revs up (wholesale prices rose an alarming 1.1 percent just last month), the humble penny is worth even less than before. But it still exerts a kind of loyalty that would make many brands envious. In a Harris Poll released this week, 56 percent of adults opposed abolishing the penny, while 24 percent were in favor. Another 20 percent were unsure. (Maybe the pollster should have pressed them with a nickel for their thoughts.) Women, penny-pinchers that they are, were more likely than men to oppose getting rid of the coin (62 percent vs. 49 percent).
