Full Contact Shows Chill Babies for Tommee Tippee

As a follow up to last year’s “Feeding Without The Drama” campaign, Boston-based Full Contact advertising has launched a new, integrated campaign for Tommee Tippee’s new and improved pacifier line.

The new campaign, “Naturally Soothing,” includes pre-roll and digital spots, which will run on parent-focused sites, including Babycenter.com, FitPregnancy.com and TheBump.com. With the new campaign, Full Contact “aims to playfully disrupt a low-interest category where many Moms struggle to find what they want and loyalty is low.” The spot, which has both 30 and 15-second executions, highlights the pacifier as “accepted by more babies on their very first try.” Babies are depicted in a variety of “naturally soothing” settings, such as chilling on a beach, relaxing by the fire, and getting the full spa treatment (complete with cucumbers over the eyes), with music to accompany the scenarios. Check out the 30-second spot above and stick around for credits after the jump. continued…

DDB Chicago Brings the Trickshots in ‘McDonald’s GOL!’

DDB Chicago teamed up with Smuggler and Whitehouse Post to create “McDonald’s GOL!,” an online and broadcast spot for the World Cup sponsors.

The 1:50 video (above) celebrates amateur trickshots, including a few from unexpected sources, as players around the world show off their skills in anticipation of the 2014 World Cup, now less than 10 days away. It’s a fun approach, and many of the trickshots are quite impressive. At the conclusion of the video, viewers are prompted to visit gol.mcd.com, home of the campaign’s augmented reality trick shot game. The app utilizes Qualcomm Vuforia AR technology to allow players to bounce a digital soccer ball off real world items, but only after it is triggered from any of the 12 limited-edition FIFA World Cup™ fry boxes — which have supplanted the iconic red boxes for the World Cup promotion. Over the course of the campaign, the game will “be available to play from 1.5 billion fry boxes in almost 120 countries,” making it the largest AR experience ever created. Stick around after the jump for credits and a look at some of the fry boxes. continued…

F/Nazca Saatchi & Saatchi Gets Sentimental for Electrolux

Well, Mother’s Day may have been over two weeks ago, but apparently May is Mother’s Month now (who knew?) so technically F/Nazca Saatchi & Saatchi isn’t late to the party with their maternally sentimental spot for Electrolux, entitled “Best Mother’s Day Present.”

The 2:30 spot tells the story of a daughter leaving São Paulo for college on Mother’s Day, and the sentimental surprise she received on her flight, causing the airline to make an exception to its menu. F/Nazca Saatchi & Saatchi reverse the traditional role of mothers receiving gifts on their day, ending with the message “Because being a mom is the best Mother’s Day present.” Be warned that, if you’re the kind of person who is strongly affected by this kind of thing, the emotional spot may make you shed a few tears at work, so you just might want to wait until the week is officially over to check it out. Stick around for credits after the jump. continued…

Saatchi & Saatchi Shanghai Introduces Mutesic for VICE

Saatchi & Saatchi Shanghai is helping VICE introduce Mutesic in China. Mutesic is a mobile phone add-on that allows users to enjoy their music on any player while helping to keep them safe and aware while on the road by syncing with their GPS and lowering the volume when they approach busy intersections.

To introduce Mutesic, Saatchi & Saatchi chose to show the add-on in action. In the 1:50 video above, you can see a young man enjoying Pharell’s international hit “Happy” while walking. As he approaches a busy intersection, the music automatically decreases in volume, allowing him to hear ambient warning sounds. The spot concludes by reminding viewers that Mutesic can’t prevent all types of accidents and that “…you still need to pay attention.”

360i Issues New Manifesto for Clinique

360i has issued a new “#StartBetter Manifesto” for Clinique, with a new 60-second video asking viewers to “Start something. Start better.”

The new spot uses simple visuals to convey its inspirational message, with a sequence created by CHRLX Beauty collective using only shape, line, and type. 360i’s manifesto seems to be catching on, as the video has garnered over 600,000 views since launching on May 20th. The simple approach has also led to a wealth of  interpretations from users across Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

RPA Issues ‘Slow Citations’ for Honda

To generate excitement for Honda’s upcoming “Fastest Seat in Sports” sweepstakes offering entrants a chance to ride along with Mario Andretti, RPA Andretti went around annoying people going about their everyday business with “slow citations” for doing things too slowly.

RPA and Honda just released footage of the stunt (featured above), which follows the “Honda Speed Control” as they issue these citations to unsuspecting civilians. Three additional “slow citation” videos will be released preceding the end of the sweepstakes on August 6th. Additionally, RPA will be issuing “slow citations” to unsuspecting brands or products that are too slow on Twitter.

“Honda is leveraging one of the most exciting opportunities in all of sports fandom—the opportunity to win a ride in the Honda two-seat Indy Car driven by Andretti—to broaden awareness of this incredible sweepstakes,” said Susie Rossick, senior manager at American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “This humorous video and social effort give us the opportunity to bring attention to Honda’s racing spirit and the advanced technology and performance found in all of our Honda vehicles.”

Stun Creative Turns James Lipton Into a Human Cannonball for Bravo

Stun Creative put together the 5th annual “Summer by Bravo” multi-platform promotional campaign for that network. The campaign, which imagines the Bravo universe as a circus complete with 35 Bravolebrities and James Lipton as a human cannonball, debuted last night with its first, 60-second spot, with five additional spots planned to roll out over the course of the summer.

Fans can check out the first spot at Bravo’s website, where they will be forced to sit through an ad while waiting to watch another ad. The promo spot is pretty much what you’d expect from the “Summer by Bravo” series, with the network’s trademark campiness in full force. Still, it’s hard to imagine even the most diehard Bravo fan going to the site to seek out the promo, when they could just, you know, watch it during commercial breaks on Bravo.

The spot was auto-play, so you’ll have to click through to watch it.

Team One, Lexus Launch ‘It Got Better’ with Jane Lynch

Team One and Lexus have launched a new series on Lexus’ broadband channel L/Studio, entitled “It Got Better.”

“It Got Better” is a six-episode docuseries telling “the inspiring personal stories of a diverse group of LGBT actors, athletes and musicians including Jason Collins, Jane Lynch, Tim Gunn, Tegan & Sara, George Takei and Laverne Cox.” A collaboration between Team One, executive producers Lisa Kudrow and Dan Bucatinsky, and the It Gets Better Project (executive producers Dan Savage and Brian Pines), the docuseries just launched with its first episode, featuring Jane Lynch, star of Glee and, more importantly, Party Down. Lynch tells her story of growing up identifying more with boys, discovering her sexuality and treating it as something she was afraid her peers would discover, to finally embracing and accepting it and finding a supporting community. It makes for compelling viewing, well worth the time if you have six minutes or so to spare (yes, this runs a bit long), and a promising start to the “It Got Better” series, which has the potential to do a lot of good for struggling teens. We look forward to upcoming installments (especially from George Takei).

Leo Burnett Toronto ‘Say Yes to Yes’ for Coors Light

Leo Burnett Toronto has a new campaign for Coors Light, called “Say Yes to Yes,” which doesn’t put up much of a front about promoting “drinking responsibly.” Instead, they’re promoting the kind of drinking that leads to pantlessness, “going to bed not in your bed,” and “winning donkeys named Richard.” Coors Light can’t promise you all these things will happen, but they can promise “Saying yes to adventure” (in this case, “adventure” means “watery light beer”) will lead to better stories.

All these “not promises” are delivered from an unexpected, and pretty ridiculous source. Clearly, the target of the campaign is the barely above drinking age crowd, who can still be swayed into thinking Coors Light is the perfect thing a night of drunken debauchery. In addition to the 60-second version above, Coors Light will air a 30-second broadcast version, which will run until the end of the summer. Stick around for credits after the jump. continued…

The Richards Group, MPC’s ‘Godzilla’ FIAT Spot Goes Viral

The Richards Group teamed up with production house MPC Creative for a new FIAT campaign featuring the King of Monsters, Godzilla.

The 45-second spot utilizes footage from the Warner Bros. Godzilla reboot (which couldn’t possibly be worse than the last attempt at rebooting the franchise) hitting theaters today, with CG of Godzilla crafted by MPC Film. In the spot, Godzilla eyes a FIAT, shoves it in his mouth and then spits it out, which prompts the “It’s a lot bigger than you think” tagline. The spot has proven a huge success, racking up over 5 million views since its debut less than 2 weeks ago. That’s not too surprising, as it’s a pretty fun tie-in that manages to balance promoting Godzilla and FIAT pretty well. Stay tuned for credits after the jump. continued…

Miller Lite, Guy Fieri Form Unholy Alliance

This one has been around for  a while, but we just couldn’t resist.

Agencies GMR (who handled talent selection, negotiation and management) and Integer (execution across retail) teamed up to bring together human keg stand Guy Fieri and watery swill Miller Lite to form an unholy alliance of annoying proportions. God have mercy on us all.

Fieri — who Anthony Bourdain once described as the product that would result “if Ed Hardy f*cked a juggalo” — is hosting a series of Miller Lite branded content on his site, Grill With Guy. One would assume that the toxic levels of hair gel Fieri applies would render himself extremely flammable, but Fieri just shares some summer grilling recipes, such as the beef and beer cheese nachos featured in the video, which we’ve left til after the jump.

Surprisingly, not all of the recipes call for Miller Lite, like the “Asian Style Grilled Salmon” (surprise: Fieri knows what mirin is), which instead ends with the instruction “Enjoy with a cold Miller Lite.” (Obviously you should never trust a recipe that ends this way.)

While it’s alarming to think that anyone who takes cooking advice from a man with a racing stripe on his refrigerator would be allowed near an open flame, it’s at least somewhat of a relief that they will have a watered-down lite beer on hand to extinguish the blaze should things get out of hand. Miller Lite and Fieri plan to keep their relationship going after the summer, with “flavorful ideas for football season” (whatever those might be).

CP+B Changes A.1.’s Relationship Status with Steak

As we mentioned in Stir yesterday morning, Kraft has decided to drop the “steak” from A.1.’s title, now calling it A.1. Original Sauce. Now we have an online spot from CP+B to go along with the name change, explaining the nature of A.1.’s evolving relationship with steak.

In CP+B’s “New Friend Requests,” the Boulder-based agency imagines A.1. rethinking its commitment to steak via Facebook. We see posts of the two together, one of which contains the line “It’s just you and me forever.” But then A.1. gets new friend requests, first from pork, then from myriad other foods. This leads to the sauce changing its relationship status with steak to “It’s complicated,” citing a need to “see other foods.” Initially steak doesn’t take too kindly to this, but eventually steak and A.1. reconcile, with the spot ending with the tagline, “For almost everything. Almost.” The idea is about equal parts clever and goofy, but CP+B mostly make it work, although the spot could have benefited from a shortened run time (it clocks in at 2 minutes). Both the name change and the “For almost everything. Almost.” campaign stem from insights into diehard A1 users, who use the sauce on everything from chicken, pork, and fish to vegetables.

The “For almost everything. Almost.” campaign will also include TV spots, which debut Monday, the first from the brand in five years, in addition to digital, social, radio, out of home and in-store activations. Stick around for credits after the jump. continued…

Sony, Mutt Industries Celebrate Successful Launch of MLB 14: The Show

A couple of weeks ago we brought you news of “Baseball is Better,” Mutt Industries’ campaign for MLB 14: The Show, the latest iteration of Sony’s long-running baseball simulation series. Now, Sony and Mutt Industries seem to have a reason to celebrate, as MLB 14: The Show’s first week sales were the highest in franchise history. As you may remember, Mutt Industries recruited Danny McBride (best known for playing Kenny Powers on Eastbound and Down) for the anthem ad launching the game.

In the weeks following the launch of the campaign, Mutt Industries has continued to roll out content at campaign site www.baseballisbetter.com, including the recent, slightly misogynist “Miguel Cabrera Gets Faster with Quick Counts.” As the season progresses, Mutt Industries and Sony will release over 100 unique videos via YouTube, Tumblr, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, featuring various MLB stars. So far, in addition to Miguel Cabrera, Andrew McCutchen, Brandon Phillips, Jason Heyward, CC Sabathia, David Ortiz, and Brett Lawrie have all joined in on the action to show how “Baseball Is Better.” You can check out Cabrera’s recent spot above, and stick around for a refresher of the Danny McBride anthem ad after the jump. continued…

FCB West Celebrates Smokey Bear’s 70th Anniversary

This August marks the 70th anniversary of Smokey Bear (apparently Smokey the Bear is a misnomer and we’ve all been saying it wrong). First created by FCB West in partnership with U.S. Forest Service, the National Association of State Foresters, and the Ad Council in 1944, the Wildfire Prevention campaign is the longest running, and one of the most successful, PSA campaigns in America. 96 percent of the U.S. adult population recognize Smokey Bear, while 70 percent can recall Smokey’s “Only you can prevent forest fires” tagline without prompting.

“Few advertising icons have become as much a part of the American vernacular as Smokey Bear,” said Peggy Conlon, soon-to-be-retired president & CEO of the Ad Council. “Smokey’s persistent popularity from generation to generation is not only a testament to the quality of work done on his behalf pro bono by FCB, but also ensures that his legacy will be one that results in continued impact in the area of wildfire prevention.”

For Smokey’s 70th birthday, FCB West worked with Butcher Editorial to create two new PSAs (running in both 30 and 15 second versions) that celebrate Smokey’s milestone, while still spreading his message of forest fire prevention. In one of the spots (above) a group of children and park rangers bring Smokey Bear a birthday cake. Seeing only the fire hazard of the candles, Smokey reaches for a bucket of water, but thankfully one of the children has the presence of mind to blow them out. In another 30-second PSA, which really ups the creepiness factor, Smokey sneaks up on a man to inform him of a fire hazard. Both spots end with Smokey rewarding fire safety prevention with a bear hug. continued…

Mark Moll Returns, This Time with New Project Aimed at Aiding Freelancers

It’s been over a year since we last heard from Mark Moll, the former R/GA ECD and SVP/creative director at Leo Burnett who’s been making the rounds on the freelance circuit for some time now. Well, now that he’s concocted “Take Your Non-Ad Person to Work Day” posters, Moll has returned with a project aimed at his fellow freelancers in the industry with an effort called “The Freelancer’s Opportunity-Based Day Rate Sliding Scale.” Concepts for a site for this Scale are being developed as we speak, but in the meantime, Moll explains his latest project to us, saying, “The life of a freelancer is pretty nice. Decent hours, no politics, no client meetings. Everything is good except the fact that you don’t produce a lot of shiny new work. It’s not for a lack of wanting, it’s just that most freelancers have to slog through the less than stellar projects. Enter The Freelancer’s Opportunity-Based Day Rate Sliding Scale. The better the assignment the better the price. The not so great the assignment, well, then it’ll go the other way.”

Apologies for the size and making you squint (the image was damn huge) but according to Moll, the Scale is “not for everyone. It’s merely a friendly suggestion, sized in a poster for your favorite recruiter’s wall.” Other categories Moll has included in the Freelancers Sliding Scale are pharma, tech, deodorant and food & beverage. We’ll update once a site is actually launched, but Moll says it will be a simple destination where you can enter a client and based on the strength of the current work it will give you a opportunity/day rate number to consider. As for other projects, the industry vet is also contemplating not only a return to full-time work, but starting a competition called Old Guns, which would cater start competition called Old Guns. One made for people who have been in the business at least 15 years or are over 45. He adds, “Everything is targeted at the younger ones in our business, it’s time someone celebrated the ones [who have been in the business a while and encourage them to flex their creative muscle.” We’ll keep you posted as we hear back from the man.

M&C Saatchi LA Taps ‘Tiger Power’ for San Diego Zoo Safari Park

Yesterday M&C Saatchi LA launched a new campaign for the San Diego Zoo Safari Park’s new Tiger Trail exhibit, opening to the public on May 24, 2014. The multimedia campaign consists of TV, print, digital, outdoor and transit, targeting the Southern California region.

All three of the TV spots in the campaign feature kids visiting the new Tiger Trail at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park and meeting a real Sumatran Tiger face to face, allowing them to tap into their own “tiger power,” which they put to unexpected use. In “Guitar Star” featured above, for example, a tween boy (with a somewhat disturbing mustache) continues rocking out at full volume even after his father pulls the plug on his amp.

“Tigers have an almost mythological connotation for their power and mystique. We wanted to show kids tapping into that to develop their confidence, their own tiger power, explained James Bray, creative director at M&C Saatchi LA.

“With the debut of this new exhibit, our guests will have a thrilling and awe-inspiring personal encounter with majestic Sumatran Tigers, and at the same time learn of the threats to this critically endangered species,” said Ted Molter, Chief Marketing Officer for San Diego Zoo Global.  “This campaign playfully asks our guests to identify with the confidence and power of tigers in the hopes that it will build greater appreciation for one of nature’s top predators.”

DigitasLBi, Clay Matthews Present ‘Draft Day 101? for GMC

Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews stars in a new series of ads for GMC created by DigitasLBi.

The campaign, entitled “Draft Day 101” sees Matthews giving tips to players in the 2014 NFL Draft, which ran from Thursday, May 8th through Saturday, May 10th. Matthews’ words of wisdom range from picking the right shoes to staying positive to proper handshake technique and calming nerves. For day one of the draft, Matthews not only shared the videos from his personal Twitter handle, but also took over @ThisisGMC to live Tweet the draft. DigitasLBi and GMC created seven videos, all of which are embedded in the playlist above. Hopefully the NFL’s 2014 draft picks were paying attention (and nobody wore sandals).
