Stun Creative Appoints First Director of Digital and Social Media

Creative agency, commercial and branded content production company Stun Creative appointed Galen Newton as its first director of digital and social media. In the newly-created position, Newton will report directly to Stun founding partners/principals Brad Roth and Mark Feldstein.

“Galen will give Stun the opportunity to greatly expand it’s services in the social marketing and digital space,” said Feldstein. “He’s an experienced digital and social pro who will work with the Stun team to guarantee that our content thrives in a multi-platform world, as we continue to expand and enrich our capabilities.”

“With Galen back on our Stun team look forward to him taking our ideation and execution further into the digital and social space,” Roth added.

Newton joins Stun following nearly three and a half years as producer, content strategy with Fox. Before that he served as Bravo digital video producer/editor with NBC Universal for nearly seven years. Prior to joining NBC Universal he served a brief stint as freelance post production coordinator, 2006 TV Land Awards with Michael Levitt Productions. Before that he actually served an earlier stint with Stun Creative, as a freelance project coordinator.

“I could not be more proud and excited to return to a company that has brought to life some of the sharpest and ground-breaking marketing campaigns,” said Newton.

Stun Creative Turns James Lipton Into a Human Cannonball for Bravo

Stun Creative put together the 5th annual “Summer by Bravo” multi-platform promotional campaign for that network. The campaign, which imagines the Bravo universe as a circus complete with 35 Bravolebrities and James Lipton as a human cannonball, debuted last night with its first, 60-second spot, with five additional spots planned to roll out over the course of the summer.

Fans can check out the first spot at Bravo’s website, where they will be forced to sit through an ad while waiting to watch another ad. The promo spot is pretty much what you’d expect from the “Summer by Bravo” series, with the network’s trademark campiness in full force. Still, it’s hard to imagine even the most diehard Bravo fan going to the site to seek out the promo, when they could just, you know, watch it during commercial breaks on Bravo.

The spot was auto-play, so you’ll have to click through to watch it.

Here’s a Quick Horror Primer from the Folks at FEARnet

Having watched a couple of horror films on the cable channel FEARnet (currently on FiOS at least) over the weekend, figured why the hell not ride the blood-soaked waves and mention this little promo from the network, which to be honest offers a great slate of old-school, cult and slasher films mixed with a total bevy of garbage. Still, us horror fans can’t play choosers in this and so we support whatever medium the genre gets exposed. Above is a brief promo as part of a new TV image campaign for FEARnet from L.A.-based Stun Creative’s graphics/animation division, Buster, which tries to offer a quick manual on the do’s and dont’s of horror films. Think Jamie Kennedy‘s character Randy in the first couple of Scream films and there you have it. Don’t worry, as long as idiots still won’t listen, the genre will be very much alive and kicking. Credits after the jump.

Stun Creative Makes Leap to Feature Films, with Help from Van Damme

Following the massive success (over 69 million view in less than 3 months) of Volvo’s “The Epic Split” ad starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, it was inevitable that the action star would make a comedic comeback. That comeback also marks Stun Creative’s first foray into feature filmmaking, with the comedy Welcome to the Jungle.

Agency co-founders Brad Roth and Mark Feldstein serve as executive producers on Van Damme’s comedic debut, which was directed by Stun Creative’s Rob Meltzer and stars, in additon to Van Damme, Adam Brody, Megan Boone, Kristen Schaal, Rob Huebel and Dennis Haysbert. Given Stun Creative’s track record with TV promos, as well as their 2013 Webby Award winning online series Presidential Clippings, the leap to filmmaking isn’t such a huge surprise.

The above trailer is worth a few chuckles, unsurprisingly mostly coming from Van Damme playing on his own action star persona. Jean-Claude in a comedic role seems so obvious that it’s almost hard to believe no one has given it a pass before, and Welcome to the Jungle should gain a lot of momentum from “The Epic Split.” A quick search for the film brought up a Village Voice review entitled “Welcome to the Jungle is Satanically Bad,” so you may want to wait before shelling out to see this one in theaters — although “satanically bad” doesn’t necessarily equal “not funny” and I’m pretty sure the guys behind the movie weren’t exactly trying to make high art. Welcome to the Jungle is currently slated for a February 7th release, both in theaters and on-demand. If you just can’t get enough Van Damme, stick around for behind-the-scenes footage after the jump. continued…
