Chief Creative Rob Reilly Exits CP&B

CP&B Worldwide Chief Creative Officer Rob Reilly is leaving after more than a decade at the agency.

The MDC agency said that he is leaving to pursue new ventures, though it’s not clear yet where he will end up. “It’s all still under debate,” he said. “I’m in talks with all kinds of agencies and there’s nothing I won’t entertain — no size limit big or small. But I will definitely take the thing that seems the most challenging and interesting to me.”

CP&B will not be replacing him and instead announced a restructuring of the creative department in which executive creative directors of individual offices — Miami, Boulder, Colo., Los Angeles, London and Gothenburg, Sweden — will have more autonomy.

Hamlin Takes Over for LePlae at Arnold

pamhamlin

Wow, it’s that kind of day. Well, this is big news as we’ve received confirmation from Arnold and its parent company Havas that Pam Hamlin has been promoted to the position of global president/Arnold Worldwide, effective immediately. As a result, Hamlin replaces global CEO Robert LePlae, global CEO, who, after “a period of transition, will leave Arnold to pursue other interests.”

Regarding the appointment of 15-year agency vet Hamlin, Havas chairman Yannick Bolloré, “I’ve had the opportunity on numerous occasions to spend time with Pam and the leadership team of Arnold Worldwide. They are a passionate and talented group of leaders, and David and I are confident in their dedication to clients and their expertise in delivering creative ideas that drive business.” At this point, we’re not sure if LePlae’s departure has to do with losing Volvo (and judging from the Spy line, don’t even know if it was amicable) but we’ll take the “transition” explanation for the time being. The former global CEO spent just 15 months at Arnold after serving as North American president at both McCann and TBWA for a couple of years.

AOL’s Tim Armstrong Hints at Impending Patch Partnership

When AOL’s Patch cut hundreds of employees and shuttered dozens of sites this summer, the hyperlocal news behemoth seemed headed towards the scrap heap.

But it may instead be moving towards a partnership, according to remarks made by AOL CEO Tim Armstrong at a UBS conference this morning.

“As an AOL investor, you should think about Patch 2014 and beyond as an asset with optionality for AOL. Most likely in a partnership scenario,” Mr. Armstrong told a crowded room of investors and analysts. While the situation is subject to change in the next four weeks, Mr. Armstrong said, a partnership will probably be announced soon.

Reilly Out at CP+B

robreilly1Wow, figured the encroaching holidays would be a slow time but just got official word that Rob Reilly, 10-year vet and partner/worldwide chief creative officer at Crispin Porter + Bogusky is leaving the agency to “pursue new ventures.” According to the Crispin camp, which also lost UX lead Matt Walsh recently, the creative department has been restructured as a result of Reilly’s departure, which will now all allow all of its camps including Boulder, L.A. Miami, London and Gothenburg to have “increased autonomy.”  The “restructuring,” which follows Reilly leaving along with his wife, 16-year CP+B vet and managing director/partner Laura Bowles, was concocted by Reilly, CEO Andrew Keller and CP+B chairman, Chuck Porter. From the announce,  executive director of creative development Evan Fry  (who rejoined CP+B over a year ago) and director of art & design Dave Swartz (the CD who we most recently noted in this Roman Coppola-directed Microsoft effort) will help guide the new creative structure while still reporting to Keller.

So, what does CP+B CEO Andrew Keller have to add? Well, in a statement, he says, “I am extraordinarily lucky to have Rob and Laura as friends and to have worked with them as partners through some of the most exciting and courageous times at CP+B. This structure really speaks to the immediate needs of our clients and our vision for meeting those needs. This is an incredibly exciting step in delivering outstanding creative work to our clients.”

During their career, both Reilly and Bowles led CP+B accounts including Domino’s, Burger King and more. As for Bowles, the MD moved up the charts during her career at CP+B from content supervisor to VP/account director to her most recent role as partner/managing director, working with other clients including Hotels.com and on new biz efforts. Sources say the parting was on good terms but we no word as to what Reilly and Bowles are up to next.

T3 Redefines a Holiday Tradition with ‘Techorate The Tree’

Last year, Austin-based  T3 used 3D printing to create a cute stop motion video wishing everyone a happy holiday. This year, T3 is reinventing a Christmas tradition: decorating the tree.

Their reinvention, which they’ve dubbed “Techorating” involves “inviting web users to amp up the holiday spirit by sending tweets to launch ornaments at the tree.” Users tweet to suggest the techoration of their choice, be it tinsel, ball, bird, candy cane, nutcracker, or fruit cake. The techorations are launched, if the introductory video is to be believed, out of a candy cane shaped barrel, to land where they will on T3′s tree. If you’re interested in participating, head on over to T3′s Techorate The Tree site, and don’t forget to tweet your launch items during launch line hours (from 8AM to 8PM) on December 12th and 13th (that’s tomorrow and Friday). We see a lot of holiday items here at Agency Spy, but this one stands out as especially fun and out of the ordinary. As far as we’re concerned, firepower plus nutcracker plus Christmas tree is always a winning formula. Let us know your techoration choices in the comments section.

“No Limite do Amanhã”, sci-fi com Tom Cruise, ganha seu primeiro trailer

Doug Liman dirigiu “Swingers”, “Go” e “A Identidade Bourne”, mas ele também cometeu “Sr. & Sra. Smith” e “Jumper”, então sempre fica uma desconfiança.

Ainda assim, o trailer de “Edge of Tomorrow” é empolgante. Todas as vezes.

No Brasil, o filme ganhou o título “No Limite do Amanhã”, e tem estreia marcada para 30 de maio de 2014.

Jesus, Gandhi, Mother Teresa and a Good-for-Nothing Slacker Appear in UNICEF Campaign

You don’t have to sacrifice your life, live in poverty or starve yourself to bring good into the world. That’s the point of “The Good Guys,” a hilarious series of films starring Jesus, Mother Teresa, Gandhi and a random slacker dude, created by Forsman & Bodenfors for UNICEF Sweden.

An average Joe with a fairly unremarkable upbringing (middle child, suburban lifestyle, college party animal) miraculously merits a seat at a table occupied by history’s saintliest figures. There, they discuss their various contributions to society — and who’s the holiest of all. Surprisingly, the random man has managed to do as much — maybe more – -than his dinner partners — by clicking on a banner ad for UNICEF. In one video, he even shows Jesus how the son of God can up his goodness quotient. (See them all below.)

The campaign aims to show that, unlike in the olden days, saving lives is just a simple few clicks away.

Visa Sings for FIFA’s League of Nations in World Cup Spot

The 2014 World Cup may not start for 183 days, but Visa is jumping on the publicity wagon extra early with “One Worldwide,” a singing welcome for all 32 teams playing in Brazil. Sources tell us Atmosphere Proximity is on the creative of the campaign. All of the singing comes courtesy of the Children’s Choir of Petropolis.

The three-and-a-half-minute video drags a little long since it fits in lyrics for every nation. Kids are cute, it’s hard to argue against that, and kids in face paint puffing out their chests in support of their respective teams can be fun, but the music choice gives off a haunting, strange tone at times. Let’s just say this is a far cry from Lionel Messi‘s Samsung spot that used little kids singing the Lorde single “Royals.” That felt flashy and happy with some high-production value. Made the viewer feel excited about soccer. The Visa spot doesn’t do any of those things. At least there’s still time to rethink things for the next 182 days.

A&E Networks is rebranding its crime-centric Bio Channel as FYI, the company said Wednesday.

The revamped network will provide contemporary lifestyle programming meant to inspire personal creativity, according to A&E Networks, and will span topics such as food, travel and home design rather than focus on a specific area.

FYI will arrive next summer, A&E Networks said, under Jana Bennett, who has been president of Bio and sibling channel LMN since June.
