The Panem propaganda machine is officially cranking up for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. Seven beautiful posters, each honoring a different district from the movie, and an ominous announcement from President Snow have been released to kick off the movie’s marketing blitz.

(Lots of spoilers below if you haven’t read or seen Catching Fire.) 

In the Capitol TV announcement, a brainwashed Peeta, held prisoner and tortured in the Capitol after Katniss’ rebellion failed to succeed, stands next to the President and looks off into the distance as Snow issues a warning to all rebels.

It’s a nice, simple spot designed as delightful fan service without giving too much away. But the posters are the real treasure here. Mad props to whoever art directed them with such an eye for detail and the writer who developed a backstory for each “District Hero.” (The bios are actually Yahoo sponsored content, in case you’re keeping tabs on this whole native advertising trend.) 

It’s no coincidence that the most soul-rending execution is the tiny, coal faced ragamuffin for District 12, the place where Katniss is currently residing after her own district was burned to the ground.

Speaking of that, it’s been a barren year for fans of fictional advertising. Fewer movies and TV shows are expanding their worlds with imaginary campaigns that give a wink to loyal fans. Luckily, it looks like Mockingjay is gearing up for even more fictional broadcasts from Panem over at TheCapitol.pn (a brilliant use of the .pn domain used by Pitcairn Islands, ironically settled by mutineers).

The campaign also has a hashtag, #OnePanem, should you desire to send them some rebellious tweets that, in a real-world dictatorship, would get you thrown in jail.

La designer graphique et artiste russe Sasha Vinogradova, basée à Los Angeles, a fait de nombreux posters pour la saison 3 et 4 de la série Game of Thrones. Elle livre un vrai travail sur la typographie en faisant références à des scènes et à des répliques cultes des épisodes. A découvrir en images.

L’artiste SpaceWolf, basé à Brooklyn, a fait une série de posters gravés au laser, en édition limitée, inspirés de la culture pop : de Frankenstein à Godzilla, en passant par Game of Thrones, Alien et True Detective, un beau travail d’artisan appliqué et précis, à découvrir en images dans l’article.

Un utilisateur d’Imgur a voulu rendre hommage à quelques films cultes en animant leurs posters sous format GIF : de Fight Club à Skyfall, en passant par Pulp Fiction, Drive et Kill Bill, toutes les scènes de ces affiches se mettent à bouger sous nos yeux. Une belle manière de donner vie à un poster figé.

Ayant pu noter ou inventer des phrases et remarques que des clients capricieux auraient pu lui communiquer, Jonathan Quintin s’est amusé à les réunir et à en faire des posters réunis sous le nom de « The Client is Always Right ». Une idée sympathique proposée par le directeur de StudioJQ à découvrir dans la suite.

The marketing mavens behind Mad Men are tapping into the golden age of air travel with their promos for the drama's upcoming final season, and now Air France too is trying to keep the dream of glamorous transatlantic transit alive.

In a series of print ads gorgeous enough to frame, agency BETC has put a retro veneer on Air France's modern luxuries. (Say, is that Marie Antoinette in business class?)

The images, with the tagline, "France is in the air," are fanning out across Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter and other digital platforms. Print and radio are planned in a dozen countries.

Compare the campaign's nostalgic, feet-up, perk-filled promises with the reality of domestic travel in the U.S., often akin to riding in a giant, jam-packed city bus in the sky, and summer vacation season can’t come soon enough.

Le studio Me&Him&You a été fondé par Peter O’ Gara & Ronan Dillon. Ils ont décidé de réaliser une série de posters des grandes villes du monde, montrant les plus hauts bâtiments de chacune d’entre elles. Des créations minimalistes limitées à 400 exemplaires chacune, représentant ainsi Londres, Berlin ou Paris.

Basée à Saint-Pétersbourg, l’artiste Arina Pozdnyak nous offre une série de posters et calendrier d’une beauté incroyable. Perpetual Calendar, c’est tout simplement une approche minimaliste de l’objet, proposant d’oublier le jour exact pour vivre l’instant présent. Des images de nature superbement travaillées.

Avec Minimalist Lines Posters, le graphiste Michal Krasnopolski rend hommage à ses films préférés et aux classiques du cinéma avec des posters minimalistes, utilisant quelques traits pour mettre en images des symboles forts. Des références à Star Wars, aux Dents de la Mer ou encore le Seigneur des Anneaux.
