ESPN Celebrates Brazil’s Legacy and Love of Soccer in First World Cup Promo
Posted in: Uncategorized
It's 2014, which means the World Cup is back—and back in Brazil for the first time since 1950. To get fans excited (as if they needed help), ESPN has released a nearly two-minute anthem for the FIFA World Cup, which the network will be broadcasting live.
It intercuts recognizable victories with abstract visions of Brazilian culture. Best of all, it makes sure to juxtapose the famous players with the street kids of today whose love of soccer is fueling the next generation of players in what is one of the world's most accessible sports. There are no words in the spot because no words are needed. Soccer is coming back to its spiritual home. Let's hope Brazil's special riot force of 10,000 troops will be able to contain all the excitement that ESPN drums up.

For ESPN, Millions to Remain in Connecticut
Posted in: UncategorizedAbertura do Monday Night Football destaca 40 anos de história
Vale o play.

Posted in: Uncategorized
Fresh from his U.S. Open triumph, Rafael Nadal comes on like the candy man in ESPN's latest tongue-in-cheek SportsCenter spot from Wieden + Kennedy in New York. Network personalities John Anderson and Bram Weinstein just can't figure out why Rafa is such a chick magnet around the ESPN offices. Could it be his tan? His dimples? Keep your shirts on, gentlemen, because the answer comes at the end, when we learn that it's the sweet, sweet stuff in Nadal's big, shiny cup that keeps them coming back for more. Roger Federer's commercial performances, even when he's pimping Lindt chocolates, are never as tasty.

Posted in: UncategorizedAntes do Super Bowl, tem sempre o Monday Night Football

ESPN's "This Is SportsCenter" is among the handful of classic sports ad campaigns of all time. Launched in 1995 by Wieden + Kennedy in New York, the campaign—originally inspired by the mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap—hasn't changed much over the years. And why would it? You don't mess with a winning formula.
The premise of the ads, as we've noted before, is that ESPN's Bristol, Conn., offices are the center of the sports universe—a surreal yet mundane fantasy world where athletes and mascots live and work together with anchors and journalists. Where other marketers portray athletes as superhuman, "This Is SportsCenter" presents them as comically, relatably human. Eighteen years and more than 400 spots later, the campaign continues.
As part of the Adweek story linked above, W+K drew up a list of its 10 favorite SportsCenter ads. Now, ESPN has one-upped its agency—devoting a whole special to its 50 favorite SportsCenter spots of all time. The show, airing this Thursday at 8 p.m. ET and hosted by Jason Sudeikis, will feature anecdotes and stories about the top 50, and fans are encouraged to vote for their favorite spot over on Facebook. Sudeikis will announce the winning spot on the show. (More than 1 million votes have been cast so far.)
Check out the program on Thursday, and click the link below for a sneak peek at ESPN's official top 10 favorite "This Is SportsCenter" commercials.
