Acha o Oculus Rift esquisitão? O Google Glass não era muito melhor, não

Não faltaram críticas e piadas à compra da Oculus VR pelo Facebook. O gadget da empresa, que ainda é uma esquisita e desajeitada máscara, gerou comoção a ponto dos funcionários da Oculus serem ameaçados de morte (!), mas a grande pergunta que ficava era: quem vai usar um treco desses?

Nessas horas, é sempre bom colocar alguma perspectiva. Em um evento em Los Angeles, o Google apresentou imagens de um dos primeiros protótipos do Google Glass. Hoje, o gadget de vestir está em vias de ganhar uma mãozinha no visual, com rumores de parcerias com a Ray-Ban ou a Oakley para tornar o dispositivo menos feioso.

Em todo caso, esse monte de cabos, fios e telas nas laterais das lentes desse protótipo do Glass não parecem assim tão diferentes da esquisitice atual do Oculus Rift. Mas continua em aberto quais seriam as possibilidades de interação do gadget de realidade aumentada com atividades na rede social. Quem sabe, um revival do FarmVille… 😉

Mehling made his commercial debut with a campaign for Earl Jeans featuring supermodel Gisele Bündchen, with whom he has become a regular collaborator, including a recent Pantene campaign. In addition to Bündchen, Mehling’s enviable celebrity and supermodel portfolio includes work with Kate Moss, Jessica Alba, Gwyneth Paltrow, Zooey Deschanel, Jennifer Aniston, Naomi Watts, Natalia Vodianova, Karen Elson, Angela Lindvall and Georgia May Jagger. Derek Jeter’s New York Yankees career closely mirrors Fox Sports’ broadcast history with Major League Baseball. The Yankees shortstop earned Rookie of the Year honors and led the Bronx Bombers to a World Series championship in 1996 — the first season that Fox carried MLB games. He appeared in a promo in 1997 highlighting his honor.

With the future Hall of Famer retiring after this season, the Yankees Captain was a natural to star in a new national ad campaign urging viewers to tune in for Fox Sports 1’s live coverage of MLB games every Saturday, said Robert Gottlieb, exec VP of marketing for Fox Sports Media Group. The new spot starring Mr. Jeter will air heavily this week around coverage of MLB’s 2014 Opening Day.

Created by FS1’s creative agency, Pereira & O’Dell, New York, the spot likens Mr. Jeter to another famous captain — William Shatner of Star Trek — and features fellow MLB superstars such as David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox.

Did Jos. A. Bank’s Buy-1-Get-3-Free Suit Sales Make This Harsh ‘SNL’ Parody Inevitable?


This much is clear: Someone in the writers’ room at “Saturday Night Live” really, really doesn’t think highly of Jos. A. Bank suits. The weekend’s edition of “SNL” included this harsh faux commercial for the men’s clothing chain, with cast member Vanessa Bayer playing a cheerful suburban mom who’s concluded that “with their innovative ‘Buy 1, Get 3 Free’ pricing, a suit from Jos. A. Bank is effectively cheaper than paper towels!” A product-demo montage follows, with Jos. A. Bank suits being used to sop up spilled coffee, bacon grease and more around the house; additional sight gags slam the quality of the suits.

The Baltimore Sun (Jos. A. Bank was founded in Baltimore) declared the parody to be “brutal.” We agree.

Hulu’s New Content Boss Is Warner Exec Craig Erwich


Hulu’s new CEO Mike Hopkins has added a content chief as he continues to fill out his executive roster.

Hulu has appointed Craig Erwich as senior VP and head of content, the company announced Monday morning. Mr. Erwich officially starts with the company next Monday.

Mr. Erwich had most recently served as executive VP at Warner Horizon, a division of Warner Bros. TV group. For the past seven years, he had oversaw the studio’s primetime reality and scripted cable programming, which include NBC’s “The Voice” and ABC Family’s “Pretty Little Liars.” Mr. Erwich left Warner Horizon in January.
