Mekanism’s ‘Pepsi: Sound Check NYC’ Completes ‘Get Hyped For Halftime’ Campaign
Posted in: UncategorizedMekanism concluded their “Get Hyped For Halftime” campaign last night with “Pepsi: Sound Check NYC,” the lead-in to the Bruno Mars Super Bowl halftime performance which acted as a much-needed respite from the ridiculously one-sided game.
The 30-second halftime intro “sound checks” New York City, with giant hands strumming the Brooklyn Bridge like a guitar, playing the Guggenheim like drums, mixing levels on a NYC subway train board and scratching Columbus Circle like it’s a turntable. Other landmarks include the Empire State Building and surrounding skyline, and the East Side Pepsi sign. The spot ends at Met Life Stadium (as you know, located in East Rutherford, New Jersey) with Pepsi’s “Live For Now” tagline. It’s a simple, yet clever little introduction to the halftime show, even if the game itself didn’t take place in New York City. Because, let’s face it, no one wants to see East Rutherford’s top landmarks.

Inside Super Bowl War Room, Hyundai Goes For Restraint Over ‘Oreo Moments’
Posted in: UncategorizedHyundai didn’t even try to dazzle the Twitter masses with an Oreo moment last night.
Instead, knowing that virtually every other Super Bowl advertiser and plenty that weren’t in the game would also have some version of a social-media “war room,” trying to seize onto buzzworthy moments in the game with their own brand of cleverness, Hyundai decided to play it safe by focusing on banter with other brands and replying strategically to specific users. Unlike brands like Butterfinger, Bud Light and Domino’s Pizza, it didn’t make an effort to weigh in on the game.
Even with its more modest goal of being in the conversation without being a show-stealer, Hyundai’s social-media newsroom at the Huntington Beach, Calif., offices of its agency Innocean was a hive of activity, with about 30 people gathered yesterday. They ranged from Hyundai’s head of integrated marketing, Hue Johnson, who was there to assemble a report for company executives that required social metrics, to a caricaturist to help develop social content.

Tylenol Hires Zeno Group for PR Help
Posted in: UncategorizedEdelman’s Zeno Group has been tapped to handle Tylenol’s consumer PR business following a competitive agency review.
“McNeil Consumer Healthcare has completed an RFP process for a public relations partner to help create consumer-facing programs in support of some of its Tylenol product lines,” said a spokesman from the Johnson & Johnson subsidiary. “We are pleased to announce that Zeno Group has been selected to help us support these important products.”
Following a series of recalls and manufacturing issues since 2010, J&J late last year began ramping up production and advertising for Tylenol. At the same time, there’s been an uptick in media coverage about potential liver damage from overdoses of acetaminophen, including a ProPublica report that while 150 people a year die as a result of overdoses of the drug, manufacturers and the Food and Drug Administration have done little to warn people of the risks. In the wake of that September report, a growing number of class-action and individual lawsuits have been filed against J&J. The company has denied any wrongdoing and outlined steps it has taken in the past and plans to take in the future to alert people to the risks of overdose.

Most Accurate Commercial Ever Explains When and Where Guys Buy Valentine’s Day Gifts
Posted in: UncategorizedIf you need a bit of a reprieve from thinking about Super Bowl commercials, well, here: Watch this spot-on spot about when and where guys shop for Valentine’s Day gifts.
The odd thing about it is that, even though it’s obviously entirely serious and 100% accurate, you can hear a live studio audience laughing in the background. I suppose that might have something to do with it having aired during this past weekend’s “Saturday Night Live.” Still, the laughter doesn’t detract from the fact that this is practically a documentary, this spot.

Twitter is Going Crazy About Vanity Fair’s New Cover. Here’s Why
Posted in: UncategorizedAs of this writing, mid-afternoon on Monday, Vanity Fair is a top 10 trending topic on Twitter in the U.S., along with #SuperBowl, #PhilipSeymourHoffman and #EsuranceSave30. Why? Because the Twittersphere collectively seems to genuinely love the magazine’s annual Hollywood Issue cover, its 20th annual.
In the past, Vanity Fair’s March covers have been criticized for being a bit… monochromatic. (See, for instance, “Vanity Fair’s ‘New Hollywood’ issue completely lacks diversity,” from 2010, when the magazine’s cover choices — all white women — were especially uniform.)
Here’s the just-released new cover, via Vanity Fair’s own Twitter feed — followed by some reactions on Twitter.

We will be able to confirm the other account by next Monday.
