NIKKI PEDDIE JOINS LOS YORK

On the heels of the most successful year in its ten year history, the creative studio LOS YORK continues the growth of its unique creative, design and production offering, and the expansion of its leadership team by hiring Nikki Peddie as Head of Brand Partnerships, a new position. An experienced marketing and advertising leader with diverse national and international experience, Peddie brings to the independent creative studio a powerful background in tech, entertainment and wellness marketing. A London native, Peddie started her career as an account director at global network agencies including Leo Burnett and AMVBBDO working on brands such as Sainsbury’s, the 3rd largest retailer in the UK, McDonalds and P&G, to name a few. For the past seven years she has been working within independent agencies in Los Angeles.
“Nikki is a brilliant global marketing maven, totally experienced working with brands great and small – the firmly established and the disruptive challengers – she’s seen it all,” said Epstein. “At LOS YORK she’ll not only be building lasting relationships with clients, helping them solve business challenges together with us, but she’ll also ensure that our creative output is delivering and exceeding client objectives. Nikki is our new go-to for all client and agency relationship escalations and will always make the time to hear from brands and their marketing partners, so feel free to reach out to her!”
“I am thrilled to embark on this exciting journey with the good people of LOS YORK as the new Head of Brand Partnerships,” said Peddie. “I will be leading a discipline that thrives on the power of genuine connections, and my approach is rooted in building honest, solid and enduring relationships, collaborating closely with clients to tackle business challenges as true partners. LOS YORK's dynamic vision and exciting existing client base present boundless opportunities and I am eager to dive in, amplify the current partnerships and forge new ones that will shape the future of our success.”
Despite the fact that 2023 was a dumpster fire for most of the advertising industry, it was the biggest year for LOS YORK in its 10-year history. The shop expanded relationships with long-term clients while also welcoming amazing new brands to the mix; Motorola, Stellantis, Teva, Logitech, 23andMe, Under Armour and Disney topping the list. LOS YORK’s model of un-siloing each area of its business, creating cross-pollination between disciplines and becoming a truly end-to-end solution for clients, began to bear fruit in 2023 as the studio started realizing full campaigns, from creative ideation to final execution for clients such as Under Armour and Motorola. In 2024, as LOS YORK continues to ride that swell, Peddie’s hire is the latest in a string of strategic hires that began last year designed to strengthen the shop’s growing end-to-end practice. Among others, Jamie Samuel joined the company as Brand Partner focusing on the studio’s direct to brand partnerships, and celebrated Global Creative Director Kevin Cabuli arrived from Lola Mullenlowe Madrid.

Dreamboat Sets Sail: The Creative Production Company Launches with a Focus on Delighting Audiences Through Collaboration and Community

Executive Producer Peter B. Williams, and the directorial duo The Norman Brothers (Keith and Kipp Norman), are excited to announce the launch of Dreamboat, a production company driven by a simple yet powerful ethos: to delight, inspire, and connect with audiences through creativity.?

As an artist-founded studio, Dreamboat has built a supportive and collaborative collective featuring a diverse and dynamic mix of passionate storytellers with a shared mission. Prioritizing relationships and teamwork, their goal is to create a vibrant ecosystem where directors can truly excel as dynamic contributors on their own productions and as co-creators for the collective benefit.

“Our nautical motif kind of merges the concepts of “life at sea” with “being a total babe,” which we thought was fun, funny, and true of our ambitions.? The way we look at it is this: We offer the fun and adventure of a pirate ship, along with the many comforts of a pleasure cruise,” states Keith Norman.?

“We take the work seriously, but ourselves decidedly less so,” Kipp Norman adds. “The thing I've always loved most about filmmaking is that it's a team sport – it comes down to people, and their abilities to lift one another up throughout the process. Our intention is to create a place where we can rise together. Dreamboat means traveling to new places with people who share that same sense of adventure.”

Exemplifying this sentiment is their inaugural Dreamboat production: a collaboration with Deep Eddy Vodka and agency McGarrah Jessee. Staying true to their belief in collaboration and partnering with the right people, Dreamboat united a team that included director Jessica Batson, who the Dreamboat team knew through her celebrated short film “Exquisite Things.” The result is a spot that is imaginative, vibrant, and joyful.

Long-time partners, EP Peter Williams and The Norman Brothers have been a part of campaigns for State Farm, Anheuser-Busch, Kraft, Nintendo, Porsche, Subway, Floor & Decor. Williams notes, “We always strive for the kind of collaboration that comes from really listening and asking meaningful questions. It’s about being additive versus competing over ideas, to create an environment where people get enjoyment out of the process. We believe that’s where the best work thrives, and this first project expresses it perfectly.”

Also central to the Dreamboat team is?Analu Moscoso, a Brazilian-born Associate Producer who is known by crew, directors and clients alike for being passionate, energetic, and fearless.?Dreamboat is represented by Lisa G. & Co. + Blush on the West Coast, Perry Tongate in Texas, Sharon Swanson in the Midwest, and Kelly Flint and Sarah Lange from New York-based firm Strike-This for the East and Southeast.??

About Dreamboat:?

Dreamboat is here to delight. It's that simple. It's what drives us to create. To connect with an audience. To collaborate. To grow. We're the team that strives to knock your socks off, leave you feeling inspired, and hungry for more. From agency to client, to cast and crew, Dreamboat creates a space where everyone feels empowered to do their best work.? Founded in 2023 by long-time partners executive producer Peter B. Williams and directorial duo Keith and Kipp Norman – Dreamboat is built on a foundation of respect, trust, and a desire to service creativity with a relentless spirit of positivity and curiosity. Our core beliefs are simple: Do your best. Be kind. Listen with patience and empathy. Communicate with clarity and transparency.?

Nintendo Switch 2 Has Nothing on These Classic Video Game Ads

Nintendo Switch 2 Has Nothing on These Classic Video Game Ads

To me, the Nintendo Switch 2 ads feel less like they're hyping new Mario or Zelda adventures and more like they're trying to sell you a sleek new smart thermostat.

It wasn’t always this way. Journey with me through some classic video game ads of the ‘80s, ‘90s, and ‘00s, courtesy of the AdLand archives.

Atari – Don't Watch TV, Play It (1978)

In the beginning, there was Atari—and Pete Rose. And forget about “console.” These were the days of “video computer systems,” and they were gloriously pixelated.

Atari – ET Christmas (1982)

Christmas of 1982 brought us one of the most epic video game flops in history: Atari’s E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. (It was such a flop that Atari tried to (literally) bury it in a remote desert, only to have its shame unearthed by a documentary crew in 2013.)

It wasn’t a failure of advertising. The game flopped because the game sucked. The Christmas commercial promoting it was iconic:

Sega – Sonic 2, “Listen Up” (1992)

At some point in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, video game TV ads hit their stride—as did the Sonic franchise. For me, nothing quite embodies the video game ad aesthetic of the ‘90s like this Sonic 2 commercial. (Remember the Sega scream? Gen X had largely forgotten its fury—until the brand revived it for Sonic Superstars in 2023.)

Sega – Shadow the Hedgehog (2005)

Speaking of Sonic, if you know any young gamers whose first exposure to Shadow the Hedgehog was voiced by Keanu Reeves, go ahead and blow their minds with his debut commercial from 20 years ago:

Gameboy – Rectal Exam (2002)

Remember the good ol’ days, when it seemed like a good idea to associate your product with the discomfort of proctological exams? Me neither. But it happened. Thanks, Gameboy.

Tony Hawk – Under (2003)

Finally, did you know Tony Hawk is 56 years old? My 13-year-old informed me of this, right before she suggested that the upcoming release of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 should consider adding a mode where you play as Tony in a wheelchair. Ouch, kid.

But let us never forget just how long Tony’s been at it:

Whatever.
