Anti-Bling Jewelry – Diamond Inside Ring

(TrendHunter.com) The title of my trend sounds oxymoronic as hell, but it’s fitting for the product.

The Diamond Inside Ring is sort of a counter-bling thing. I mean, you get to wear a diamond and, off course, let the world (or your family and friends if you’re not really that famous) know all about it by having “Di…

Spring-like bright whites and pastels in addition to chocolaty brown lovel…

Lenovo says Apple is just “hot air”?

lenovo_art_of_thin.jpg

New, trendy, and flashy products are often ripe targets for competitive ads. I always secretly enjoy when one company directly targets another via their advertising, despite knowing that a more creative (and ultimately more effective) solution most likely exists.

Lenovo seems to have had enough of the ever-so-popular Macbook Air, and takes a shot at it with the release of their new ThinkPad X300. Not only do they say “everything else is hot air,” but they even go as far as to loosely reference the Apple typefaces, gradients, and button styles of apple (below). It kind of takes the whole Mac vs. PC thing to a whole different level.

Transparent Apple Displays – MacBook Touch (GALLERY)

(TrendHunter.com) In what could be the holy grail of tablet computing, Apple’s latest applied patent (see image below, right) showcases using a transparent multi-touch display that can work as a control surface on two sides, both while the device is open and closed.

The patent avoids twisting the notebook/ tablet sc…

Aww, Don’t Cry. You’re Murdering Trees.

greenpeace-kleenex.jpg

Greenpeace has built a spoof site to take on Kleenex, which, since hankies went out of mode, dominates the wipe-your-eyes and blow-your-nose market.

Unicycles You Sit Inside – Motorized Monocycle

(TrendHunter.com) A monowheel is a one-wheeled vehicle similar to a unicycle. However, instead of sitting above the wheel, the rider sits either within it or next to it. The wheel is a ring, usually driven by smaller wheels pressing against its inner rim. Most are single-passenger vehicles, though multi-passenger mod…

‘Bold Moves’ Bullshit Begets “Ford. Drive One.”

farleyjim_ford.jpg

If there was ever a tagline shift from the nebulously ethereal do the blunt, “buy our shit now,” it would be this new tagline from Ford, “Ford. Drive One.”

…And Action

Are you hip to Fast Company’s move into consumer-generated video? Actually, I hesitate to call it that. Is Scoble a consumer? What about Shel Israel? They’re not Directors of Photography, that’s for sure.

Maybe it should simply be called DIY video.

For some strong opinions on this venture, click over to Loren Feldman’s video rants.

Gaming Style PDAs – Rolly and Buddy (GALLERY)

(TrendHunter.com) These PDAs look like portable game consoles. With new visual and ergonomic designs, Rolly and Buddy are the brainchild of CREAT, Tokyo. After an extensive study of the Japanese market, aesthetic and functionality won out and these two PDA’s are the result.

Nudevertising Credit Cards – Visa TV Spot

The brand name Visa probably isn’t one that evokes sexy imagery, but their latest TV spot could change all that.

The credit card company’s latest ad campaign features a naked man. No, it’s not because you’ll be left in your birthday suit after being forced to sell your clothes to a second hand sho…

Visa: for when you’re stranded and naked

After just two years, Visa has shed its first pan-European brand message of “Love every day” in favor of the new tagline, “Love every naked man sprinting through the desert.” Alright, so the line is actually “Life flows better with Visa,” but the new positioning will probably get less notice than the bare buttocks featured in Saatchi & Saatchi London’s kickoff spot, which begins airing Monday in the U.K. It’s a nice ad with a clever backstory, but it seems like you could launch a “flow” campaign with something a bit more epic. Competitive Comparison Ads – Motorola Z9

Motorola knows how to create infectious products, but can they succeed at viral marketing? Their latest campaign for the Motorola Z9 media-slider cell phone will be a good indicator.

The ads target fact junkies as they include comparative charts which rate the Moto Z9 against the Nokia 6500 and Sa…

Phone Calls on Flights – Emirates AeroMobile

Do you experience cell phone withdrawal when flying? You’d better book your next flight with United Arab Emirates airlines. This week the first phone call was made from Emirates Airbus A340-300 en route to Casablance, Morocco from 30,000 feet in the air.

They have plans to carry the “AeroMobile” s…

When To Say When

Anyone who has spent significant time blogging can tell you what an obsession it can become. It’s an obsession I’m looking very closely at these days, as peering into this screen for hours on end is not the smartest thing I’ve ever chosen to do.

But there are people, like Fred Wilson, who are much more obsessive than me. Wilson’s in Hawaii on family vacation right now. To squeeze in a post, he takes his Crackberry on the eliptical trainer with him and types while he sweats.

I’m not going to judge Fred Wilson’s activities, but I am going to ask what kind of world we live in where a man on vacation in Hawaii needs to update his blog, which isn’t even his job, while working out?

Corn-dog fanatics planning huge air assault

Corndog If a screaming comes across the sky tomorrow, take cover. It might be a squadron of corn-dog bombers arriving to rain down starchy hell upon you and your basketball-playing buddies, in honor of National Corndog Day. Joining in this death-on-a-stick assault is Pabst Blue Ribbon beer, which has signed on as an official sponsor this year. More people will likely be watching basketball than playing it on Saturday, but it wouldn’t hurt to keep an eye on the horizon.
