Heathers

Über stay at home mommy blogger, Heather Armstong, a.k.a. “Dooce,” is often profiled in MSM.

Today, it’s Career Journal’s turn to mine for material.

Here’s what I learned this time:

  • Shani Higgins, Technorati’s vice president of business development, estimates Dooce.com could yield as much as $40,000 a month in ad revenue from companies coveting her traffic, like BMW and Verizon.
  • Heather sometimes suffers from severe writer’s block and takes a notebook with her everywhere she goes in order to log possible ideas for her site.
  • Heather prints out nasty emails, puts them in her driveway and drives over them with her car. “That’s the attitude I have,” she says, “and it’s made my life a thousand percent better.”

Heather is also a really gifted photog, but that’s been established.

Cadbury says Don’t Stop Me Now!

You might remember the Cadbury Gorilla spot we wrote about a while back. The question was posed:

Is it a worthwhile piece of content simply because it makes people watch? Or is it missing the boat because it has no connection to the brand?

Well, something as unique (and bizarre) as a gorilla drumming to Phil Collins is hard to top, but Cabral and Fallon have certainly done their best.

Both the drumming gorilla and this new spot share a bizarre semi-disconnect from the brand, and a similar feeling of enjoyment and satisfaction. And as touchy as I am at the use of Queen, this spot does it beautifully, just as the Gorilla did justice to “In The Air Tonight.” And then there’s the whole whole Cadburyesque purple sky, which is creatively beautiful.

Does it work? Can the “campaign” be continued successfully (and if so, does this accomplish it?) or was the drumming gorilla enough?

Justice Mitchell, Web marketing superhero

Justice
We’d be a fan of Justice Mitchell even if he didn’t ply his trade at our friend and co-conspirator David Griner’s agency, Luckie & Company. And ply he does, with interactive marketing chops that bring to mind the old Tenacious D quote: “If you want your asses blown out, stay in the room.” Luckie has built a whole campaign, Demand Justice Now, around its hiring of Mitchell. It includes a savvier-than-thou Twitter feed and several spoof legal ads. As Justice would say (and, in fact, did say), “It’s not bragging if you can throw out enough metrics to imply you did it.” Stick that in your Facebook and smoke it.
