Like a Buzz Saw, Newcastle Takes the Edge Off

newcastle-waitress-2.jpg

vitro robertson recently launched this bus shelter campaign for Newcastle. In each of the images, a glass of smooth Newcastle beer is set alongside something prickly, like a blowfish or a cactus. The part nearest to the beer is jarringly barb-free.

Former Miss Universe Loves Cock…atoo

When you are in the business of selling yourself as a brand ambassador, this is why you should always demand to have final approval over the work you appear on…and actually be around to approve it.

Billboardom has put together a list of fourteen billboards that feature the human butt.

Is bigger always better? BMW-Russia finds out.

bmw_ad_2.jpg

Apparently the old adage “bigger isn’t always better” got tossed out the window with this one. Just meters from Kremlin in Moscow City, BMW has created one of the biggest billboards in Europe. Measuring in at 65,000 sq. ft., it’s large enough that the five full-size BMW M-class models look like ants.

bmw_ad_3.jpg

The 450 lb. life-size car models were constructed by We R.Signs International using wheels, body panels, lighting, and a few other parts from BMW. Cars on walls isn’t new, but this magnitude makes it a bit different. Very cool from a construction and installation standpoint. Will it sell more Ms?

Perhaps in reaction to complaints about their over-sexified imagery in their advertising, American Apparel has decided to opt for something mush less sexy; an image of Woody Allen.

Sound of Color Habitat Fails to Work Up a Crowd

We mentioned recently that we thought Gap’s Sound of Color effort was really cool. In response to our call for news and pictures of how Gap is promoting Sound of Color at stores, Adrants reader Chris sent us the following email.

Computers Go Back in Time to Celebrate Broadband Invasion of TV Turf. Wait, What?

emmys-mtm.jpg

Word has it that broadband content is now eligible for Primetime Emmy Awards. Whether that flatters broadband shows or the sleepy Emmys is anybody’s guess; it’s all the same in the media melting pot.

Outdoor Ads Contrast Pizza Hut Timeliness with ‘Filipino Time’

hate-late-clock.jpg

In the Philippines, or maybe just among Filipinos, nothing happens on time. It’s one of those things that drive us crazy. When we attended the premier for The Debut (an awkward Filipino-American movie you should never EVER watch), it started 45 minutes late. The director, who was present, gave us a winning grin and said, “Filipino time. You know how it is.”

Orange Uses Gesture-Based Display to Drive Handhelds into Actual Hands

For client Orange, the Alternative is doing that gesture-based advertising thing. Do a little hand-dance to bring news, film clips or music videos to your fingertips. We see a less useful, but strangely more amusing, version of this technology…
