Tell a Story: Writers’ Font

“Telling the Story of Portuguese Literature in a Typeface. www.tellastory.pt

To promote “Tell a Story”- a book shop with wheels that sells translated Portuguese books in several languages as a “postcard” of portuguese culture – the country and its most notorious authors, and to encourage tourists to tell a story about Portugal, we created a new typeface based on these portuguese authors’ calligraphy to inspire everyone to write like them.
Either to write a novel or a Nobel, a simple note or the diary of a journey.
From A to Z you’ll find the characters of Fernando Pessoa, José Saramago, José Luís Peixoto, Cardoso Pires and Lobo Antunes all combined together in one new handwriting free font: The Writers’ Font. A vowel may have the mild stroke of one author, a consonant might show the strong personality of another, but they are all genuine and pour geniality.

Have you ever imagined writing a story with Fernando Pessoa’s “a”, José Saramago’s “b” or Lobo Antunes`s “c”?

Big Ad Spenders Hang Hopes on Wearable Tech as Smartphone Sales Soften

Samsung shut down a portion of New York’s Times Square last Wednesday for its latest product launch. But unlike its other high-profile unveilings, the attention was focused on a “smartwatch” instead of a smartphone.

The Galaxy Gear, a mobile device that pairs with a smartphone and is worn on the wrist, is part of the latest in a trend sweeping the mobile-device industry at large: Tech companies are betting on wearable computers (“wearables”) to become the next major consumer category as interest in smartphones wane.

“We see the body as the next frontier for personal computing and the wrist is one of the most-accepted places on the body for consumers to wear a sensor device,” Forrester analyst Sara Rotman Epps wrote in an email.

Are You Ready for Some Freakball? DirecTV Tells Tall Tales in Ads From Grey

DirecTV's NFL Sunday Ticket, which offers every game live on any digital device, turns average Joes into "the world's most powerful fans" in three goofy spots from Grey. These godlike guys grow freakishly tall, grill burgers using their bare hands as spatulas and ride around on lightning bolts and date adoring goddesses clad in sparkly bikinis and Mercury-winged caps. They're like the Titans—from mythology, not Tennessee—reborn as outsized, sports-obsessed, media-savvy fanboys. Meanwhile, regular dudes who still watch the games on cable are portrayed as nebbishy geeks.

Guys are hyper-competitive and love to brag about everything, so I can see where these ads would appeal to some. And they're visually memorable. That said, they seem a tad mean-spirited, portraying "powerful" football fans as boastful loudmouths who lord it over everyone in earshot. What? You've got the game on DirecTV? Well, good for you, big man!

David Kim Heads Back to SF

Here’s what we got from a seemingly deleted Facebook status update from David Kim, who joined Deutsch LA as a group creative director merely 10 months ago. From what we’ve been told, this is what Kim posted: “LA’s in my blood but SF’s got my heart. #farewellDLA #lookingforaplacetoliveinSF.” Kim joined Deutsch LA as group digital creative director last year on Volkswagen, essentially taking over for Jerome Austria after spending a few years working at Venables Bell & Partners, helping the Bay Area agency launch Google Fiber and Intel’s “The Chase” in the process.

From what sources tell us, Kim and family just missed the San Francisco area hence the departure, which we hear was amicable. During his career, Kim also served as an interactive CD at Publicis Seattle on T-Mobile and served as a designer at TBWA\ unit \Tequila. No word yet on his next move, but we’ll keep you posted.

Polevskaya Varnya Beer: Package

Beer package concepts are usually very beautiful. But in reality, the Russian’s law demands placing a lot of additional mandatory information on the bottle. And this becomes a problem, because sometimes this information occupies more than 50% of label space.
Looking on the brewery’s logo in a shape of a tree, we have chosen direction of eco-labels and used the texture of tree bark and felling. We embedded all mandatory information about consist and limitations to the natural wood texture, saving the visual harmony and purity of idea.

Calvin ‘Megatron’ Johnson Goes Undercover at ESPN

On the field, Calvin Johnson earns his “Megatron” nickname by dominating defenses with a robotic efficiency. He’s bigger, faster, stronger, and at times, it looks like a Transformer is playing against humans. However, off the field, and more specifically, in the ESPN offices, Johnson uses his transforming powers to trick a different kind of opponent (for anyone who cares and watches too much ESPN, it’s Kevin Negandhi).

The latest “This is Sportscenter” ad is par for the course: short, funny, and off-beat. The work comes once again from W+K New York (which has been handling SportsCenter work for nearly two decades), an agency that has no problem taking sports material and making it accessible to audiences. And for Megatron, he may want to think about outsourcing his Transformer duties over to Diddy, or Johnson, or whatever Nike wants to call him.

Credits after the jump.
