Burlington Coat Factory Taps Silver & Partners for Relaunch

As discount retailer Burlington Coat Factory prepares for a brand re-launch, it’s tapped a new agency partner to help: Silver & Partners.

The indie agency, renamed  Silver & Partners from Amlgamated, picked up the creative after a review that began in January. Chicago-based independent Cramer-Krasselt was the incumbent, working on the account since 2008. Cramer-Krasselt declined to participate in the review and declined to comment. Media duties, which are handled by Interpublic’s Initiative, were not affected by the review.

Silver & Partners will be responsible for developing creative to increase the frequency of shopping visits and boost “top-of-mind awareness” among the brand’s core 25-to-49 year-old value-conscious customers. “As we continue to grow our business we wanted a new partner and a new campaign to ignite customer interest in Burlington,” said Burlington Chief Marketing Officer Bart Sichel. “We have done a good job over the past few years communicating the functional benefits of our brand, but we wanted to develop a richer relationship with consumers.”

Inside Cannes: How to Get on a Jury at the Festival

The best way to become a judge at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is to be a Lion winner yourself and live in a Cannes-crazy country that sends lots of entries to the festival.

There are about 300 judges each year, and Phil Thomas is in his sixth year as CEO of the festival, so he’s been responsible for naming 1,800 judges.

“I’ve never had anyone say no,” he said, “apart from if a baby is due that week or…a death in the family. The thing about being on the jury at Cannes is that it’s almost as good for your career as winning a Lion.”

BBDO NY/Atmosphere Proximity Nab North American Emirates Biz

Following the usual “competitive review,” BBDO NY and its sibling Atmosphere Proximity have been appointed as AORs for Emirates in North America. As a result of the airline’s move, which goes into effect August 1, Emirates not only extends a digital/social relationship with Atmosphere that’s lasted nearly a decade, but now adds BBDO to the fold as both agencies will collaborate on an integrated marketing campaign that’s expected to break late summer.

In a statement, BBDO NY president John Osborn says, “This is a great opportunity. An opportunity to build on the quality, leadership and footprint of the biggest international carrier in the world.  We are thrilled to be partnering with Atmosphere Proximity to help Emirates achieve its aggressive sales goals.”

Prior to BBDO, Emirates (which is also kicking off a global media review) worked with Boston-based ISM on its North American ad duties. This marks the second win for the agency this week following its appointment as creative agency for the ING New York City Marathon.

Has O’Charley’s Created a Poor Man’s Ron Swanson?

I doubt I'm alone in believing that Parks and Recreation's Ron Swanson (played by Nick Offerman's mustache) is one of the best characters in TV history. The folks at O'Charley's seem to be such fans that they've created their own "spokes-patron" who seems to be an homage to television's favorite steak-devouring Libertarian. The "Brock Roland" character appears in two new spots for O'Charley's. In one, Roland introduces himself by saying he'll gamble on push-up contests and love, but not on steak. In the second spot, he adds an order of chicken fingers to his cowboy sirloin, which might get a nod of respect from Swanson, who likes to order his steaks in threes and once asked a diner for "all the bacon and eggs you have." Check out one of the O'Charley's spots below and another after the jump, where you'll also find a few of our favorite Ron Swanson food moments.

How Smashburger Is Setting Itself Apart

Advertising Age Player

brightcove.createExperiences();

Smashburger may not be a household name, but the chain’s executives are hoping that will one day change. Founded in 2007, the burger chain is expanding at an impressive clip. With 197 stores at the end of 2012, its estimated systemwide sales were $174 million, including $3 million from new international locations, according to Technomic, up from $120 million and 140 stores the prior year.

Huggies Makes Pregnancy Belt for Men So They Can Feel Their Baby Kicking

Huggies and Ogilvy & Mather Argentina made a belt for men that allows them to feel their unborn baby's kicks. The belt is synced up with the real-time movements of the baby in the mother's belly, apparently through some kind of wireless sorcery. It's a neat idea, although the description of it as "something special to compensate fathers" is a little weird, like pregnancy is some kind of cakewalk that they're missing out on. But, whatever. It's hard for me to get on my high horse about this when things like the Daddle exist.

Could the New Myspace Really Be Cool? We’re Almost Convinced

I’m sitting in Salt Lake City Airport, shocked at the number of people wearing flip flops, and I want nothing more than to be in Myspace’s fun room of young, beautiful artists grabbing at one another amidst fluorescent confetti. Their instruments and skateboards may be breakable but they are not. They smash faces and tangle limbs and fall on the floor, but this video gives us the sense that these fiery singers, models, DJs, and rappers will never flame out.

After Justin Timberlake’s reboot, can the same be said for Myspace (capital S begone)? We weren’t sure the social network could drag itself away from obsolescence, but this spot seems to be doing just that, and with a bang. If Myspace is a room filled with the likes of DIIV, Iggy Azalea, Pharrell Williams, Sky Ferreira and Schoolboy Q, then it is anything but irrelevant. If you don’t know those names, you better learn them. And check out the new Myspace while you’re at it; it seems to be the cool thing to do.

Credits and MySpace announce note after the jump.
