Ao clicar para seguir um perfil de bebida, uma mensagem direta é enviada solicitando que o usuário selecione uma data. Esses famosos age-gates dependem exclusivamente da honestidade do usuário, e em alguns tipos de verificação basta um clique para dizer que é maior de idade.

Essas práticas de marketing funcionam mais como auto-regulamentação da indústria do que obrigatoriedade, e, obviamente, diversas entidades não estão satisfeitas com o modelo, já que não impede ninguém de acessar o conteúdo.

O Twitter, em parceria com a Buddy Media, está habilitando o age-gate para as marcas interessadas, que solicitarem através do site age.twitter.com.

O Facebook e YouTube também fazem verificação de idade para bebidas alcóolicas, mas nesses casos o processo é mais fácil, já que o usuário precisa preencher a data de nascimento no momento da criação do perfil na rede social.
