People Are Loving the Super Sultry Cover of a Classic Elvis Song in These Trojan Ads

In 1957, when Elvis recorded "All Shook Up," grinding and groping was referred to as heavy petting. Today, it's called an ad campaign for adult sexual aids. To launch a trio of new lubricants, Church & Dwight's Trojan brand picked a dreamy, breathy, super-slow cover of the classic Elvis hit by the indie duo Avila. The result is a pretty darn effective set of spots from agency The Joey Company featuring couples in various stages of romantic dry humping. But it's OK, viewers, because they're married, as evidenced by the prominent wedding rings on display. (There must still be backlash against TV ads for this genre of products, or marketers might be able to skip this too-obvious prop altogether.) The attractive folks in the ads aren't the only ones getting lucky. The song shot to the top 10 on iTunes, where it's been for six weeks. It found its way into the Trojan campaign via L.A.-based music marketing and licensing firm MediaHorse, which also landed Avila's cover of "My Favorite Things" for a Victoria's Secret holiday campaign. See all the spots below.

Small Feet – Rivers

Another Agency Rap, You Say? Yep, This Time for Grey NY’s Booze Cruise

Channeling the spirits of Lonely Island and many an agency rapper before him, Grey New York producer/production coordinator Adam Defrin has taken it upon himself to write, director, perform in and edit this clip to promote the agency’s monthly open bar outing that it’s dubbed “Dog & Pony.” If you can sit through the clip, which features an apt theme and setting as the first Dog & Pony show is essentially a booze cruise, you’ll catch an odd likeness of Grey NY president/CCO, Toy Myhren, which we guess counts for a ringing endorsement of Defrin’s handiwork. Our only question is, why are the MC/creator and his sidekick wearing sunglasses under the darkest of skies?

Jay-Z Announces New, Samsung-Sponsored Album via 3-Minute Spot

This three-minute Samsung spot played during halftime of the NBA Finals last night, and it ran before my YouTube videos this morning. It’s Jay-Z, playing with sweet beats, so of course I didn’t click “SKIP AD.” You better not either, because at 1:20 you’re going to bob your head emphatically as Jay and his team recreate the sound of the speakers blowing out. If you skip the ad, you’ll also miss Pharrell’s face, looking incredulous and smiley as he assists Jay’s genius. You’ll miss uber-producer Rick Rubin hanging out on the couch barefoot.

Just as we were getting worked up over Yeezus, HOV comes through with Magna Carta Holy Grail and perhaps the greatest (or at least highest-profile) marketing coup in Samsung’s history. On July 4, the first million Samsung Galaxy users to download a customized app will receive the album for free. Three days later, other drabby people–i.e. iPhone users–get access. It’s a tantalizing prospect, and one that depends on avoiding the lately inevitable leak. Or maybe not–if the app’s “personalized stories and inspiration” really consist of never-before-seen content, then it’s an asset even if (when) the music sweeps the Internet in advance.

Could the New Myspace Really Be Cool? We’re Almost Convinced

I’m sitting in Salt Lake City Airport, shocked at the number of people wearing flip flops, and I want nothing more than to be in Myspace’s fun room of young, beautiful artists grabbing at one another amidst fluorescent confetti. Their instruments and skateboards may be breakable but they are not. They smash faces and tangle limbs and fall on the floor, but this video gives us the sense that these fiery singers, models, DJs, and rappers will never flame out.

After Justin Timberlake’s reboot, can the same be said for Myspace (capital S begone)? We weren’t sure the social network could drag itself away from obsolescence, but this spot seems to be doing just that, and with a bang. If Myspace is a room filled with the likes of DIIV, Iggy Azalea, Pharrell Williams, Sky Ferreira and Schoolboy Q, then it is anything but irrelevant. If you don’t know those names, you better learn them. And check out the new Myspace while you’re at it; it seems to be the cool thing to do.

Credits and MySpace announce note after the jump.

So, Who Will Get to Direct New OK Go Music Video?

A few months ago, we covered the announcement for the 3rd annual Saatchi & Saatchi Music Video Challenge. Well, the time has jumped by – maybe you noticed, maybe you didn’t – but we’re back to report the 12 finalists and one People’s Choice winner. The contest asked interested directors to create an original music video for OK Go’s new single, “I’m Not Through.” You can check out the finalist entries here. On June 20, the winner will be announced as part of the Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors’ Showcase.

As you’d expect with an OK Go contest, there is an abundance of quirk and artistic shenanigans. The parties involved say the finalists come from all corners of the globe, but really, they just come from western countries, mostly the US and UK. One finalist is from the Bahamas. It’s now that we’re reminded that globes don’t have corners. Not to show favoritism to my personal preferences when it comes to abundances of quirk and artistic shenanigans, I’ve randomly selected two finalist videos (one below the jump) for your viewing pleasure on this dreary Friday afternoon. Enjoy.

Let’s Welcome the Brief, Wondrous Return of DK’s Stanley Piano

We first learned about Stanley last summer, when he was introduced at the Capitol Hill Block Party in Seattle. Everyone’s favorite interactive piano that can take take requests via Twitter is back, this time to play at the Chobani SoHo yogurt bar for the New York-based non-profit Sing for Hope. Digital Kitchen is taking care of the creative legwork and will be broadcasting Stanley on www.singforhope.com June 1-2.

Stanley has collected nearly 2,200 followers in the past year, which is impressive when you take into account that he is just a musical instrument and doesn’t have thumbs. No word yet on whether Stanley is familiar with Watson, the “Jeopardy” computer, but the two could probably have an interesting electronic bromance if they ever got together in the same room. Anyone who would like to request a song can tweet @StanleyPiano.

Puma Flash Mobs Borussia Dortmund After Champions League Final

Celebrating athletic accomplishments is one thing, but serenading the soccer team that just lost a heartbreaking UEFA Champions League Final to Bayern Munich may not be the greatest idea, especially when that team is waiting in Stansted Airport and the players look like deflated tires in designer suits. Surely, there was hard work put in by all involved – dancers, singers, creatives – and that should be acknowledged. But, the three-minute clip almost looks like a spoof video; the players seem dazed and confused as the dancers spin around to “Movin’ On Up” by veteran Scottish act, Primal Scream.

Maybe it’s a European thing, or maybe I’m not a fan of flash mobs (which apparently will never die), but I’m not sure I comprehend the randomness of this particular gesture in relation to Borussia Dortmund. In the age of organic viral content, this latest work from Puma just feels clunky and off-beat.
