Volvo’s ‘Epic Split,’ Dentsu are Big Winners at the U.K.’s D&AD Awards
Posted in: UncategorizedThis year’s big winners at the U.K.’s Design and Art Direction awards, announced in London last night, included Volvo Trucks’ “Epic Split”, by Forsman & Bodenfors, “Real Beauty Sketches” by Ogilvy & Mather Brazil for Dove and Honda’s “Sound of Honda / Ayrton Senna 1989” by Dentsu Tokyo.
“Epic Split” picked up two Yellow Pencils as well as a Black Pencil, the highest honor given by D&AD, while “Sound of Honda / Ayrton Senna 1989” was the most highly awarded campaign overall, picking up one Black Pencil, two Yellow Pencils, one Nomination and four In Book Awards. It also helped Dentsu win Most Awarded Digital Agency.
The Volvo ad continues a winning streak that also includes top honors at the Art Directors Club and the One Show. The Honda campaign, which recreates the engine noise from the 1989 Japanese Grand Prix, where Ayrton Senna broke the record for the world’s fastest lap, earlier earned a One Club nod as one of the best auto ads of the year,

Here’s our take on it all: when you set up a new hub to work with the rest of the world, it kind of makes sense to install a multinational team to do so. Not just a local setup running a global account, but a team that has a clue about the world out there.
We did just that. And we invented a design tool to brand this team, and to communicate our mindset and vision —

Google Poaches L’Oreal CMO Marc Speichert to Court Brands

The search giant has poached L’Oreal global CMO Marc Speichert to join its global client and agency solutions division. Mr. Speichert will report to Kirk Perry, whom Google snagged from Procter & Gamble last November, a Google spokesperson confirmed.
Re/code had earlier reported Mr. Speichert’s hire.

Posted in: UncategorizedJohnson & Johnson has moved its $1 billion-plus U.S. media buying account to OMD from Interpublic’s J3, a J&J-dedicated unit of UM, the company said. J3 will continue to handle media planning, which is the larger piece of the media business from a revenue standpoint, a J&J spokeswoman said.
The move comes less than 19 months after J&J last reviewed its U.S. media business and less than two months since Kim Kadlec, who had been point person on that review, left her post as worldwide VP-global marketing of J&J to become head of relationship marketing at AOL. But the J&J spokeswoman said the change was unrelated to the departure of Ms. Kadlec, whose position at J&J hasn’t been filled.
“We’re shifting some of our focus from a marketing perspective from products to really looking at what consumers are looking for in media,” the spokeswoman said. “We’re taking a look at everything we’re doing and trying to figure out the best mix.”

BC Children’s Hospital Foundation (BCCHF) and DARE Vancouver have launched an emotionally charged campaign focusing on the impact of a sick child on loved ones. The campaign, intended to raise general awareness of the hospital and its great needs, does not shy away from the painful journey experienced by parents, grandparents, siblings, extended family and friends caring for a sick child. With the knowledge that people are more likely to give when they know a child in hospital, DARE developed a series of advertisements to show the effects of illness through the eyes of those who are not suffering directly.

Posted in: UncategorizedTo generate excitement for Honda’s upcoming “Fastest Seat in Sports” sweepstakes offering entrants a chance to ride along with Mario Andretti, RPA Andretti went around annoying people going about their everyday business with “slow citations” for doing things too slowly.
RPA and Honda just released footage of the stunt (featured above), which follows the “Honda Speed Control” as they issue these citations to unsuspecting civilians. Three additional “slow citation” videos will be released preceding the end of the sweepstakes on August 6th. Additionally, RPA will be issuing “slow citations” to unsuspecting brands or products that are too slow on Twitter.
