Ad Review: Caterpillar, Ogilvy Craft Cool B-to-B Spot


This review is not an attempt to get the good folks at Caterpillar and Ogilvy to invite me over for a game of back-hoe Jenga.

But, man, wouldn’t that be cool? Because, let me tell you, playing Jenga with industrial moving equipment looks really cool. Don’t believe me? Pull up Caterpillar’s “Built for It Trial #1: Stack.”

Just as in b-to-c, not all b-to-b products are created equal. The most brilliant ad-agency creatives in the world probably couldn’t make payroll software seem the least bit cool. And, in the wrong hands, earth-moving equipment can be made to seem pretty boring, too.

NewFronts Begin: New York Times Pitches a Surge of Digital Video


The New York Times has bolstered its digital-video lineup with a slate of shows starring its editors and columnists as well as the series “Verbatim,” where members of the Upright Citizens Brigade comedy troupe read legal transcripts word-for-word.

The Times plans to show off the programming at its NewFront presentation in New York on Monday morning, where it also plans to pitch advertisers on a redesign of its video hub, which is being reorganized under 14 channels and adding a native-ad product called Branded Playlists.

Acura is the initial sponsor of the Times’ new video hub.

Rohit is a man of few words, lets his work do the talking for him. Probably he was attracted to the camera before he noticed the opposite gender ;). As much as he is comfortable behind the camera the situation is totally reverse when he has to smile for the camera.

Why are you a photographer?
It’s the only Best thing I can do in this life. I m leaving my dream.

Do you remember any decisive moment when you felt ‘I want to be a photographer’?
Nothing specific moment, when I decided to be photographer.

I was an engineering student. I was very bad in studies, never enjoyed studying.

Were there any particular role models for you when you grew up?
Outside the field of photography the only person I look upto is Sachin Tendulkar.

Who was the most influential personality on your career in photography?
Umesh Aher and Saish Kambli, my mentors.

How has photography changed over the course of the last couple of decades? Is execution/art direction more important than it used to be?
Earlier as options were few and work was in abundance things were a bit sorted and the photographer took the calls on how he/she wanted to shoot their campaign. The pioneers of photography like Gautam Rajadhyaksha ,Suresh Natarajan & Tejal Patni had given a whole different dimension to photography and youngsters looked upto them and idolized them for their vision to bring fashion and commercial photography to the notice of one track minded Indians. Whereas now photography has become more of an extracurricular activity.

Given a choice, no other constraints, film or digital?
Digital.

What do you think of the current state of Print Advertising photography in India? Is it at par with the work done worldwide?
Deteriorating day by day on the basis of creativity. Indians are focusing more on the quantitative work rather than qualitative. Whereas the worldwide print advertising scenario is progressive and diverse when it comes to creativity.

Where do you get your inspiration?
New day new leaf. Only an amazingly good day which brings forth new challenges and opportunities can inspire me.

Was there any time when you wanted to quit photography?
No. Never

Whats your dream project?
Want to shoot with my favorite actor Mr. Amitabh Bachchan.

Who would you want to spend a dinner with?
My Wife.

Whats on your iPod?
Bollywood and Trance.

Knob Creek Pours On the Charm in New TV Spot from Walton Isaacson

Knob Creek—aged for nine years in new, charred American Oak barrels—is now running its first-ever television commercial. The spot which features Booker Noe, the charismatic sixth-generation master distiller at the distillery.

Rob Nelson, Senior Brand Manager of Small Batch Bourbons at Beam, says, “As we continue to grow this legendary bourbon brand, we’ve decided the time is right to take things up a notch and allow Knob Creek to reach new audiences on TV.”

Noe intones in the new spot, “If you’re not completely satisfied with the big, full flavor of our bourbon, just send back the unused portion and we’ll drink it for you.”

I am uncertain if that’s a money-back guarantee, but I do enjoy the bravado in the line.

Chicago-based marketing and advertising agency Walton Isaacson developed the spot.
