Hmm, So CE Chief Ludwig Appears to Be Out After All

Well, isn’t that something. Less than a week after sources familiar with the matter told us that the Campbell Ewald executive team “remains in place” following the agency winning Cadillac account management duties, AdAge today echoes what many tipsters were saying prior to the win, that chairman/CEO Bill Ludwig is out. Since June 6, we’ve been hearing on the Spy Line that Ludwig (and possibly one other member of the executive team) was literally shown the door days prior to CE securing its portion of said automaker’s account. AdAge, though, merely reports that Ludwig has “stepped down.”

Ludwig, who still toplines CE’s leadership section on its site, has been with the Detroit stalwart for the duration of his 30-year ad career, starting as a copywriter before moving up the ranks to chief creative/strategy officer to his most recent position at the top of the agency’s food chain. We’ll try to get some comment from Campbell Ewald if possible and will update if and when we can.

Update: The same sources familiar with CE that we talked to last week tell us that “nothing’s changed” since last week, so yeah, consider us confused.

Does Your Cannes Beach Bash Have the Right Permit To Party Late?

Partygoers at the Cannes Lions festival could lose a valuable half-hour of late-night beach revelry as some  organizers say the traditional 2 am curfew for loud music on the beach has been moved up this year.

Parties may have to end at 1:30 am, with the music turned down as early as 1 am.

Reliable sources, including the esteemed concierge at the Martinez Hotel, say Cannes city authorities grew tired of beach party organizers flouting the 2 am curfew, though it is possible to apply for permits valid until that hour. Whether you can manage to secure one is the big question.

Kraft Salad Dressing Ad Gets Best Present Ever: A Slap From One Million Moms

Kraft's saucy ad campaign (via ad agency Being) for its Zesty Italian salad dressing launched in early April, but it's taken a rebuke from One Million Moms to give it a sudden enormous boost of visibility. The moms are super pissed off about the print ad above, featuring the campaign's hunky model, Anderson Davis, enjoying a naked picnic. The ad is far from subtle—the picnic blanket has pretty obviously been pulled over Davis's privates in such a way that it looks somewhat obscene. This infuriated the moms, which write on their website: "Last week's issue of People magazine had the most disgusting ad on the inside front cover that we have ever seen Kraft produce. A full 2-page ad features a n*ked man lying on a picnic blanket with only a small portion of the blanket barely covering his g*nitals. It is easy to see what the ad is really selling." Nope, they can't even say the words naked or genitals. The moms add: "Christians will not be able to buy Kraft dressings or any of their products until they clean up their advertising." Kraft responded with this statement: "Our Kraft dressing's 'Let's Get Zesty' campaign is a playful and flirtatious way to reach our consumers. People have overwhelmingly said they're enjoying the campaign and having fun with it."

This a double-sided satirical map of Cannes. One side is made of meat, the other made of mouldy bread. The idea is that Cannes is divided into rich, past- it CDs/ presidents and young ,hungry creatives who do the work. The legend looks at it from the perspectives of each side.
