How can we resist the nightmare of global capitalism and the lifestyle it demands? How can we jam the dominant logic of consumerism, imperial war, an abused Third World, and an ember planet? While no doubt daunting, we offer a guide in three parts. Each third targets a different site where capital rears its Achilles heel, where creative forms of resistance take shape and reveal new ways to live.
Under the headings, CORPO, ECO, PSYCHO, this list proceeds apace in the twilight of postindustrial capital. We don’t have time as a luxury anymore; in fact, we’re living the end times. So as you use, combine, or complement the following guidelines to counter the system, act now, act fast.
Part II: ECO: We’ve left a planet of slag to posterity—it’s time to reconsider
Street Farms
Community gardeners may be the future; their projects exist in major urban centers, such as the Sole Food collective in Vancouver (with four farms) to Growing Power in Milwaukee, WI, to others from LA to Barcelona. Sole Food’s raison d’etre no doubt applies to most of these outfits, namely that they turn “vacant urban land into street farms that grow artisan quality fruits and vegetables.” With their help we can begin to uproot agribusiness its destructive tendencies.
Recognize the scope
Maybe it’s easy to forget the massive affect of industry/development/consumption on the planet. But consider that traces of fuel exist in all drinking water. Penguins in the remotest reaches carry carcinogens. Sliced open sea life contains consumed bits of plastic. Mountains of shirked computer parts languish in the Third World.
Derrick Jensen’s Endgame, Ed Burtynsky’s Manufactured Landscapes, and Chris Smith’s Collapse all track the environmental decline. It’s a sobering wake up call to immerse yourself in these media as well as other books/features in the same vein.
Live off the grid
Grove. Cabin. Conifers. Air un-tempered by the exhaust of cities… ah, how lovely the reclusive life. But wait, don’t racist militiamen want this too?
Unfortunately yes, but it so happens that capitalism begets strange bedfellows. Sometimes the far right and far left circle back on each other, differing only where they see the blame falling.
In any event, living off the grid ensures that we free ourselves from the consumerist grind. Obviously easier said than done, but imagine how liberating, how audacious, how alive it would feel to play Henry David Thoreau in our own sequestered spot.

Posted in: UncategorizedBrazil’s Grupo ABC advertising and marketing group is selling a stake of about 20% for $84 million to a Sao Paulo-based private equity firm and hedge fund called Kinea.
Grupo ABC is ranked by Ad Age as the world’s 18th largest agency company, with worldwide revenue of $448 million in 2011 from about a dozen agencies and marketing services companies, almost all in Brazil. Holdings include Brazilian ad agency Africa and a 40% stake in DDB Brazil, and U.S. agency, San Francisco-backed Pereira & O’Dell. Grupo ABC was started in 2002 by Nizan Guanaes, a former head of DDB in Brazil, with several local partners.
Guga Valente, ABC’s chairman, said the investment will enable Grupo ABC to continue growing and making acquisitions, largely in Brazil.
Oakley apresenta a reinvenção do carrinho de golf

A agência Thinkmodo diz que o veículo realmente foi fabricado, apenas uma unidade, e revelado poucos dias antes do torneio The Masters Golf, que começa do dia 11 de abril.
Utilizando a tecnologia de um hovercraft, o chamado BW1 pode se locomover na grama, areia e água.
O vídeo acima, além dos quase 5 milhões de views em 3 dias, aumentou o tráfego no site da marca em 40%, e deu 10 mil novos seguidores no Twitter para Bubba Watson.

Adidas Halts Sales of Controversial Kevin Ware T-Shirts
Posted in: UncategorizedAdidas said it has stopped the sale of controversial T-shirts around injured Louisville Cardinals player Kevin Ware. The athletic company would not elaborate on why it halted sales beyond citing “a logo issue.”
Adidas and Louisville began selling the “Rise to the Occasion” T-shirts with Mr. Ware’s No. 5 on them for $25 a pop after he suffered a horrifying broken tibia during the team’s nationally televised Elite 8 win over Duke. Critics and fans have ripped Adidas and Louisville for seeming to cash in on Mr. Ware’s devastating injury. “The shirt is not currently for sale because of a use of logo issue,” said Adidas spokeswoman Madeline Breskin via email.
The Cardinals are favored to win as the NCAA men’s basketball tournament moves to the Final Four. Given the bad publicity that both Adidas and Louisville have received since the T-shirts went out, both the marketer and the school probably just wanted to make the issue go away.

Twitter Week in Review: Kevin Ware Trended Higher Than ‘March Madness’

April Fool’s Day is always an unpredictable day on social media, as brands and media entities try to generate their share of buzz by duping gullible followers with fake announcements or products. Google played a handful of pranks, as did other tech companies, and even P&G managed to pull the wool over a few eyes with Scope’s “Bacon Flavored Mouthwash.” Twitter users discussed the notorious holiday in general terms, as it applied to them personally, and the pranks they either perpetrated or fell victim to.
Unsurprisingly, 20-year-old college basketball player Kevin Ware trended high this week after sustaining a gruesome compound fracture to his right leg during a live televised game against Duke Sunday night. Players and spectators on both teams appeared visibly disturbed by the sight of his injury, which required emergency surgery to mend. Its impact on Twitter was immediate, with hashtags like “#PrayForWare” soon trending widely. Ware is expected to rejoin his teammates on the bench during Louisville’s NCAA national semifinal game against Wichita State tomorrow in Atlanta. (“March Madness” was also a top trend, and the Miami Heat managed to grab the no. 10 trend of the week after a war of words between its general manager, Pat Riley, and the Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge.)

Posted in: UncategorizedHere are three of the strangest quit smoking ads you will ever see. Created by Sukle Advertising & Design for the Wyoming Department of Health, three ads explain how the department can help people conquer the challenge.
In “Patches,” a man nervously eyes a peg-legged pirate on a city street corner, before gleefully snatching the pirate’s eye patch. A deadpan voiceover reminds viewers that free nicotine patches are available. “Gum” opens with an agitated young man watching an older woman take a piece of gum, which he then extracts from her mouth through a passionate kiss. Free nicotine gum is also available from the Health Department.
Finally, in “Someone,” a long-haired ex-smoker tells his troubles to a friendly man who dispenses advice. When it turns out the two men are one and the same, the voiceover reveals that “someone to talk to” is also available and free.
