Posted in: UncategorizedPsst. You. Yeah, you. Keep it down, this is a secret…In Chicago last week, newspaper management-types from several different mastheads met to work out details on what will most likely turn out to be the most difficult monetization of any of the mediums. Unlike social sites that need to determine the best strategy, newspapers are starting with negative yardage. Their challenge? Charging for something that was free.
And that is a challenge at which many would balk.
In essence,
the papers are trying to figure out how they can charge people for news on the Internet after largely giving it to them for the past 10-15 years. They have to do this so they don’t have to shut down when print advertising revenue gets so low that they can’t afford to stay in business anymore.
And, like newspapers tend to do, the story was leaked and printed by The Atlantic.
It looks like some things won’t change…

Twitter, the free micro-blogging service that enables users to send text-based "tweets" 140 characters in length to their "followers," is one of the hottest social media companies on the planet. Despite a meteoric rise and the fact it's been around for nearly three years, we had honestly never heard of Twitter two months ago. It was not until Mark Cuban tipped us off that we actually created a Twitter account and sent our first tentative tweets.

The Kids Are All Right

MINNEAPOLIS (AdAge.com) — Whatever happened to juvenile delinquency? In the morning came the news from The New York Times' front page about the horrors of high-school-hallway hugging (no, not mugging, that was so last generation). Then, in prime time, clean-cut kids posing as human spellcheckers made ABC's "National Spelling Bee" as compelling a competition as anything on cable cousin ESPN. Concurrently, their slightly scruffier older brothers were in a dance-off on Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance."
