Agencies Officially Need to Pay Attention to Vine Now

You’ve heard of Vine, right? Of course you have–and we’ll go out on a sturdy limb in suggesting that most of our readers probably don’t think of Twitter’s six-second loop tool as the Next Big Thing in digital marketing.

This week, however, the company unveiled the latest step in its campaign to appeal to those of the agency persuasion: loop counts.

What does that alien phrase mean? Metrics to measure how many times people have clicked on given “vines” have been around for a while, but this one tells us how many times a given clip has looped–and it somehow controls for the “open tab” factor as well. The idea is that viewers will watch the most compelling Vines loop repeatedly, thereby increasing brand retention, etc.

In short, we can now get a better sense of how much Vine campaigns are worth–and, given recent agency trends focusing on more accurate measurement for social media campaigns, some think that this means more shops will have to take Vine seriously.

A few marketing experts weigh in after the jump.

World Cup Shows Why Sports Is Driving the World's Biggest Media Mergers

More Americans have watched the U.S. soccer team in this World Cup than ever before. The two biggest announced acquisitions in the world this year are for U.S. pay-TV operators. Yes, there is a connection..

AT&T’s bid for DirecTV and Comcast’s merger with Time Warner Cable, totaling a combined $134 billion, are tied together by a thread that today is driving many of the decisions in the world of pay-TV: sports.

AT&T will buy DirecTV only if the satellite-TV provider renews its exclusive Sunday night package of football games. Time Warner Cable is selling because it’s losing customers rebelling against high cable bills — caused in part by the soaring cost of obtaining sports rights. The two deals are prime examples of how sports programming’s immense popularity has become both the cause of, and solution to, pay-TV’s slowdown.

Frankly, We're Concerned About the GOP's Hillary Clinton-Stalking Squirrel

Yesterday the GOP released a video on YouTube titled “Campaign Tails,” which is a “new documentary video” — as the GOP describes it — “starring the squirrel who has been tailing Hillary Clinton and the Ready for Hillary bus on her ‘book tour.’ The video delves into the squirrel’s past work in 2008, his disappearance, and his return to the political stage.”

(You may recall that last month Hillary actually approached the squirrel and cheerfully handed it a copy of “Hard Choices”; ABC News posted video of their encounter with the headline “Hilary Clinton Gives Her Book to Republican Squirrel.”)

The video seems to be part of the GOP’s rebranding from the Obamacare Must Die party to the Stop Hillary party. In a statement, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus says that people are curious about the squirrel and have been “asking about everything from his previous work against ACORN to his name. This in-depth account of his past work, his hiatus from politics, and his return should answer many of those questions. Watching this video is not a hard choice.”

Facebook to Buy LiveRail, the Third-Biggest Video Ad Seller

Facebook’s video ad business just got a lot bigger.

Months after rolling out the first video-specific ad product on the social network, Facebook has agreed to acquire LiveRail, one of the biggest video ad sellers. A Facebook spokesman declined to comment on the deal’s price.

LiveRail automates the sale of video ads for publishers including Major League Baseball, ABC and Dailymotion. Rather than negotiate deals over the phone or in person, these publishers can upload their video inventory to LiveRail’s system, which solicits buyers via real-time auctions. Publishers can also use LiveRail’s ad technology to process upfront deals without all the paperwork that can delay a campaign from airing in a timely fashion.

Burger King, DAVID Have Pride in Their New Gay Whopper

How gay does this Whopper look to you?

See, that was a trick question: packaging aside, it looks and tastes exactly like every other Whopper.

On that point, here’s the spot promoting it from DAVID, which premiered today:

This ties quite nicely into the brand’s new (contentious) “Be Your Way” tagline…

Carl's Jr. Ad for Sticky Buns Wonders Where You Would 'Pull One Off'

Carl’s Jr./Hardee’s isn’t a shy fast-food chain. But this time they’ve traded oiled-up models for innuendo. I won’t spoil the new spots, but let’s just say they aren’t too subtle.

The approach shouldn’t be too surprising, as this is the same restaurant chain that once asked people if they preferred A holes or B holes. I am curious as to how they expect people to eat these Cinnamon Pull-Aparts anywhere (wouldn’t the icing drip?), but I will give them points for having both men and women allude to masturbation. Kudos?

Can the Charmin Bears Get Through Airport Security? Yesterday's New Ads

Every weekday, we bring you the Ad Age/iSpot Hot Spots, new and trending TV commercials tracked by iSpot.tv, a company that catalogs, tags and measures activity around TV ads in real time. The New Releases ran on TV for the first time yesterday. The Most Engaging ads are showing sustained social heat ranked by SpotShare scores reflecting the percent of digital activity associated with each one over the past week. See the methodology here.

Among the new releases, Charmin’s family of bears makes its way through airport security, while Bud Light serves up another teaser regarding its plans to take over a real American town that’s “up for anything” this summer (E.J. Schultz previewed the campaign early last month). And Subway is hosting a “blowout” summer BBQ — sort of. (Its Applewood Pulled Pork sandwich is available for a limited time.)

The not-new ads still holding a lot of traction include some of the best World Cup spots plus Pantene’s commercial asking why women are taught to apologize so much — one of several recent ads questioning society’s messages to women.

Artista recria bandas famosas usando LEGO

Beatles, Foo Fighters, The Smiths, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers e Beastie Boys são alguns exemplos. Confira abaxo:
