She Makes Comics é um novo documentário que quer acabar com o preconceito sofrido pelas mulheres quando o assunto é quadrinhos.

Como lembra a diretora do filme, Marisa Stotter, as mulheres estão presentes neste mundo desde o começo, seja como roteiristas, artistas, editoras, donas de lojas e também como fãs. E a discriminação, com seus altos e baixos, para Stotter sempre esteve lá – seja por ser a única mulher no meio da roda masculina, ou por ser constantemente testada sobre seus conhecimentos, como se nunca fossem suficientes.

Suas vozes darão vida às dificuldades, às revoluções e aos tipos de narrativas e composições que partiram dali e permanecem até os dias de hoje. 

O documentário irá incluir mais de 50 entrevistas com mulheres que trabalham ou já fizeram parte da indústria dos quadrinhos, desde 1930 até os dias de hoje.

Dentre as personalidades estão: Jackie Ormes, cartunista dos anos 40; Joyce Farmer, que revolucionou o movimento de comics underground nos anos 70 com suas narrativas cruas e feministas; Karen Berger, diretora da DC Comics, entre muitas outras.

Is This Double Entendre-Laden T-Fal Iron Ad Sexist?

It’s almost like there was an air of “quit your bitchin’ and get back in the kitchen” hovering over the creative team at Toronto-based Faren that came up with this T-fal iron ad. In the ad, two women neighbors have a conversation using steam signals from their irons.

While there’s nothing sexist about two women gossiping about a date one of the women had the previous night but does placing them in a very homemaker-like scenario make it so? Especially when the conversation is all about how rich the woman’s date was and all these women seem to do is stay home and iron?

So which is it? 1950’s housewives or mountain out of a mole hill?
