Tudo ao som de I Want it All, do Queen. Destaque, ainda, para a tipografia. Vale pela diversão.

Content Chief Andy Forssell Named Hulu Interim CEO as Board Decides Its Future

Hulu has named content chief Andy Forssell, interim CEO, replacing Jason Kilar, who is leaving at the end of the month.

We predicted Mr. Forssell would get the job because when we last checked in on the process, Hulu hadn’t conducted a formal search, and the cloudy future of the video service would make it difficult to recruit a top-notch outside candidate.

Mr. Kilar is leaving the company, which he bootstrapped, named and led to improbable success, navigating the interests of joint-venture owners who are invested in Hulu but also see it as competitive with their core TV business.

Bugles: Edible, Hours, Plastic

Bugles is a quirky, odd shaped snack from General Mills that’s been around since 1966. The objective of this campaign is to revitalize this nostalgic brand and make it fun and top of mind again. After all, who doesn’t remember playing with Bugles as a kid. Playing off this insight, the concept from Cossette Toronto was to advertise Bugles as a game, rather than a snack. And so it was born – The Game That You Can Eat!

No One Was Hurt During The Making Of This Invasive Advertising

Would you stand up for a friend? No, seriously, if a friend called in the middle of the night and needed you to bail them out of a poker game gone wrong, would you rush over there with the ransom money to free your homey?

Carlsberg drinkers would.

Will Burns, CEO of Ideasicle loves the idea.

Carlsberg shattered the cliches while positioning itself as a brand for close (very close) friends. Here’s why I love this reality-prank idea: Carlsberg isn’t flatly claiming their beer is for those times when friends are together. They are demonstrating it.

David Gianatasio of Adweek notes:

The poker prank, while elaborate and invasive, actually seems a tad tame by the genre’s current standards. It’s nowhere near as shocking as last week’s faux elevator strangling for the movie thriller Dead Man Down, or as intricately upsetting as Nivea’s airport ambush in February, which strove to convince people that they were wanted by the law.

Duval Guillaume Modem/Antwerp is the responsible party, or irresponsible party depending on your POV.

Legendary copywriter and author Luke Sullivan, who now teaches advertising at SCAD in Savannah, weighed in on another new “shock and awe’ stunt from Pepsi MAX this morning:

I HATE THESE AD “PRANKS” THAT SCARE THE HELL OUT OF PEOPLE. SHAME ON THE BRANDS AND SHAME ON THE AGENCIES. What agency did this? I’d love to post a note on their site.

Here’s the footage he’s speaking of (btw, the Pepsi MAX looks to be from TBWA\Chiat\Day):

What are you thoughts on this invasive species?

Facebook Hashtags: a Play for Real-Time Ad Dollars

Facebook is reportedly planning to adopt one of Twitter’s seminal features, the hashtag, a move that could put the two companies more directly in competition for ad dollars.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Facebook is testing out an integration that would enable users to click on a hashtag and be sent to a page where conversations around that topic would be grouped, akin to how Twitter search functions.

There are obvious implications for ad targeting, since Facebook will theoretically now have a much better signal to identify highly engaged TV viewers watching a real-time event like the Oscars or the NBA Finals if hashtags are widely adopted.

PR Exec Andy Cooper Is Dead at 64

Andy Cooper, the PR executive best known as a co-founder of the New York firm CooperKatz, has died after a battle with cancer. He was 64.

Mr. Cooper co-founded the agency with grad school friend Ralph Katz about 17 years ago, growing it into a well-regarded mid-sized PR firm that remained staunchly independent in an age of rapid consolidation. Current clients include Coldwell Banker, Otis Elevators, Jackson Hewitt and the Association of National Advertisers.

Mr. Cooper got into PR in 1975 when he joined the New York office of Burson-Marsteller eventually becoming president and vice-chairman there. He and Mr. Katz, who ran creative services at Burson, struck out on their own in 1996.
