As The Sun announces paywall plans, will people pay?

News International has followed The Telegraph and announced plans to introduce a paywall at The Sun in the second half of 2013.

Gorgla showed us how giving clients a red carpet experience put new life into her business. She also gave “Elevator Pitch” hopefuls some solid advice to make sure their startups never go out of style.

Pillsbury Doughboy Giggles for Geico

What?!? Is that the Pillsbury Doughboy being used in a non-Pillsbury advertisement? Is that even legal? This is a big deal! Wait, is it a big deal? I mean, it’s not like they’re competitors of Geico’s. You can’t insure your car with baking products and you can’t bake with car insurance. Wait, can you? No…no, you can’t. Yet.

What we have here is an ad-crossover of sorts, which, if you think about it, wouldn’t be that surprising if brands weren’t so super protective of their copyrighted material. You’d think that someone would learn a lesson from Who Framed Roger Rabbit? about that joys of allowing your brands to interact with others. So it’s refreshing to see Pillsbury play ball with Geico and The Martin Agency for a joke about the giggly little Pillsbury Doughboy getting the pat-down from the TSA on his way to a baking convention. Man, that little guy really loves being touched, huh? Credits after the jump.

Aconselhamento matrimonial: não espere que a solução caia do céu

Sabe aquele filme que é tão ruim, mas tão ruim, que exatamente por esta razão é bom? Pois esta é a melhor definição para The Bird, um comercial russo que incentiva os casais a buscarem aconselhamento matrimonial.

Criado pela agência Red Pepper, com produção da How We Love, o filme mostra um casal que teoricamente está tentando aproveitar a praia (que provavelmente não é na Rússia). A zangada esposa não dá um segundo de paz ao marido, que não abre a boca nem mesmo quando recebe a tarefa de passar protetor solar na mulher e o pior acontece…

A imagem parece ter saído diretamente dos anos 1990, enquanto a dublagem não encontra o caminho da sincronização nem com um mapa. Isso tudo mais o slogan “Não espere que a solução caia do céu azul”, a trilha sonora e o desfecho vingativo tornam The Bird digno do play.

O ilustrador Tang Yau Hoong, que ficou bastante conhecido pela série Negative Space criou uma nova coleção de pôsteres que combinam ilustrações bem-sacadas com frases conhecidas de Steve Jobs, Albert Einstein, Margarete Mead, Nelson Madela, Henry David Thoreau, George Bernard Shaw, Santo Agostinho e Lao Tzu.

Para ilustrar “Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish”, Hoong voltou a trabalhar com o espaço negativo. A ideia lembra um pouco aquela imagem do logo da Apple com o perfil de Jobs, que começou a circular logo depois de sua morte, em 2011.

People on the Move: PointRoll Names Mario Diez Chief Executive Officer


Mario Diez has been named PointRoll’s new chief executive officer. Mr. Diez has been at the center of creative, media, and measurement technologies, building sales for and leading some of the best-regarded and innovative technologies in digital media. He has previously held senior roles at The New York Times and PointRoll. He joined Centro in New York as VP-eastern sales. After Centro, as vice president for Datran Media, he launched Aperture, an analytics platform based on verified household data. This is a homecoming of sorts, as Mr. Diez opened the New York market for PointRoll in 2003, when the company was a 2-year-old startup.

WPP Digital’s 24/7 Media appoints Christina Van Tassell as new chief financial officer. She will be responsible for the financial operations of 24/7Media and its two divisions, Real Media Group and Media Innovation Group. Ms. Van Tassell brings 20 years of global experience in finance, management, and private equity to the company. Prior to this position, she was the chief financial officer at Centurion holdings in New York. She also held senior roles with PricewaterhouseCoopers Transaction Services in New York and London, and PwC Global Capital Markets in Sweden. A graduate of Muhlenberg College, Ms. Van Tassell also holds a join MBA from Columbia Business School and London Business School.

Ned Potter has joined RLM Finsbury as senior vice president. Mr. Potter will play a significant role in RLM Finsbury’s growing science and technology practice. He had previously served as a science correspondent for ABC’s “World News” and also reported for “Nightline,” “Good Morning America” and the Discovery Channel’s “Discovery News.” He also contributed as an editor for ABCNews.com, expanding its digital-media footprint. Before joining ABC News, Mr. Potter was a correspondent at CBS News. He received a bachelor’s degree at Princeton University, where he studied the history of science.
