Lets celebrate Rampenfest!

In an idyllic Bavarian town named Oberpfaffelbachen, the villagers are preparing for Rampenfest. There will be lots of beer, pretzels and oh yeah, a big frickin’ ramp. If all goes according to plan, a 135i BMW will fly Evel Knievel style from Europe to America.

Naked Cowboy suit vs. M&Ms will proceed

Naked_cowboy_mms A judge this week gave the green light to the Naked Cowboy’s lawsuit against Mars Inc. for trademark infringement, stemming from an animated video that ran in Times Square which showed the blue M&M done up in Naked Cowboy-ish garb. The other big news: The Naked Cowboy, aka Robert Burck, isn’t seeking $6 million, as reported in February, but rather $100 million. He tells CNN: “I have spent 10 years in every kind of weather and going through the legal, step by step [process of getting a trademark],” Burck said. “It is imperative that damages are pushed so … an example will be set.” The blue M&M has not commented publicly on the lawsuit.

Saatchi NYC, kings of fake ads or just proactive?

After the chatter about the Cannes winning JCPenney’s ad, a little birdie told Mediabistro’s AgencySpy:
“Saatchi most certainly knew about the fake JC Penney ad. Everything Saatchi did under Granger was fake. This one example is just the tip of the iceberg. It’s a great story just waiting to be blown wide open. Crest was fake. Buckley’s Cough Syrup was fake. Stuffit Deluxe was fake. All made for award shows just to win some medal.”

Adland sends up Showtime’s pinup banners

Adland_dabitch_2

Dabitch, the proprietress of mother-of-all-ad-blogs Adland, is unimpressed by Showtime’s new ads for Weeds—pinup pics of Mary-Louise Parker that are being packaged together with similar (and more appropriate) ads for Secret Diary of a Call Girl. But she seems to identify with her tormenters, as she’s whipped up her own homage to the campaign. “Seems that the right thing to do in order to sell anything is pose sexy,” she writes. “I should have tattoed Adland’s URL on my chest years ago and tried to pose for Playboy to generate some buzz.” Our 370-pixel column width doesn’t do it justice, so click over for the full effect.

Gold’n Plump takes shots at Golden Arches

Oldmcdonald_2

Consumers who relish any disparagement (implicit or otherwise) of Ronald McDonald will enjoy this new billboard for the Gold’n Plump chicken brand. Something tells me that Gabriel deGrood Bendt of Minneapolis, which created the campaign, won’t be getting any part of the McDonald’s account in this century. Along with other executions in the series, this one makes the point that Gold’n Plump’s chickens are raised by independent farmers in Minnesota and Wisconsin, and not somehow extruded from some hideous factory farm.
