Sid Lee Showcases ADC Winners in Interactive Exhibit

The ADC (formerly known as The Art Directors Club), is launching a “one-of-a-kind traveling art exhibit that puts the design ahead of the content.” The exhibit showcases the winners of ADC’s 93rd Annual Awards in an interactive installation executed by a creative team at global ad agency Sid Lee.
The three-piece exhibit is steam punk themed and “makes you work for a sneak peek of the winning work” with simple machines, constructed by Sid Lee, that require user-interaction to bring the work to life. These machines include the following:

  • Bring the beat: Motion and Interactive: Visitors play a harpsichord-inspired instrument to trigger the Motion and Interactive winning work, which is projected onto a facing wall with each note
  • Honey, I shrunk the art: The Design, Photography and Illustration winning work was shrunk down to miniature sizes, and viewers look into a structure (part pinhole camera, part carousel, part light box and part microscope) that magnifies individual pieces
  • Take a ride on the wild side: The Advertising winners take a little more effort, encouraging viewers to hop a recumbent bicycle-structure and pedal enough energy to project the winning advertising work onto a facing screen

Guinness Holds Global Review, Parts with Saatchi & Saatchi

Diageo-owned stout brand Guinness has announced that it’s holding a pitch seeking a new agency for its global advertising account, parting ways with Saatch & Saatchi, who have worked on Guinness’ global account for six years.

“To drive better integration between idea generation and multi-channel execution we are looking to appoint a new agency to lead content creation across digital and shopper channels for our global platform, ‘Made of More,’ said Grainne Wafer, the global strategy and communications director at Guinness.

“The rationalisation of tasks and agencies over the last couple of years, and specifically just recently, have substantially changed the creative potential of the global Guinness account,” said Magnus Djaba, the chief executive of Saatchi & Saatchi London. “As a result, we feel the time is right for us to part ways. We wish Diageo all the best in finding the right agency for the business going forward.” Saatchi & Saatchi began work on the account back in 2008, with the brand approaching its 250th anniversary.

The pitch will not affect Guinness’ regional relationships, such as with AMV BBDO in the UK and in Africa (an account which BBDO won from Saatchi & Saatchi last year), and BBDO New York in the US.

Wexley School for Girls Issues ‘Reverse RFI’

Seattle full-service agency Wexley School for Girls is turning the RFI and RFP process on its head, or, in their words, “reversing the traditional RFI and RFP process in which brands look for agencies to handle their advertising via a complex and costly rigmarole of vetting, chemistry checks and basically pitting agencies against one another to compete for an account.” Today the agency has issued the first-ever Reverse Request for Information or RRFI, calling on brands to become the agency’s next client, tapping New York search consultancy Madam to help in the process.

“We believe it’s as important for the agency to choose its next clients as carefully and rigorously as a client chooses its next agency,” reads the RRFI. “We are looking for a client that is respectful, fun to be around and one that enjoys partnering with their agency not dictating to them… We see ourselves as an asset not a vendor. And we see clients as partners not clients,” the Wexley’s RRFI goes on. Applicants are asked to define their brand and where they want to take it in 2-3 years, what brands they admire, their marketing budget, their true “risk tolerance” for creativity, their proudest moment, a definition of their ideal relationship with an advertising agency, and “Would you rather ride 1 horse-sized duck or 100 duck-sized horses?” — you know, all the tough questions. continued…

Miller Cuts Ties with Saatchi & Saatchi NY

millercoorsMillerCoors is cutting their ties with Saatchi & Saatchi New York, lead agency on Miller Lite since early 2012, Ad Age reports. Saatchi & Saatchi New York was also lead agency on the newly launched Miller Fortune, an extension of the Miller brand with higher alcohol content. Earlier this year MillerCoors moved a significant portion of the Miller Lite account to a collection of WPP agencies, who played a major role in Miller Lite’s latest campaign. The move also follows a long-term sales decline for the brand.

“We appreciate the efforts and professionalism from [Saatchi & Saatchi New York CEO] Brent Smart and his team behind our brands,” Pete Marino, MillerCoors VP-communications, said in a statement to Ad Age. “Any immediate needs for Miller Lite and Miller Fortune will be handled by other roster agencies, though we have a lot of current work to draw from that we recently debuted at our sales and marketing conference. We have no timetable for the longer term, and will take our time making decisions that strategically make sense for both brands.”
