360i Celebrates ‘The Unsung Bacon’ for Oscar Mayer

360i and Oscar Mayer have a new campaign championing unsung bacons — turkey bacon, always in the shadow of its porcine relative; and Michael Bacon, whose popularity also pales in comparison to a certain member of his family.

The goal of the campaign, which lives at the landing site www.unsungbacon.com is simple: Oscar Mayer wants to help Michael Bacon gain more Twitter followers than his famous brother. So far, it’s quite the uphill battle. As of press time, Michael trails 1,361 to 430,943. Michael, in case you didn’t know, is an Emmy award winning composer and a member of The Bacon Brothers. The landing site will host videos, photos and facts about the campaign. It’s a clever idea which may get people to reconsider an item they’d otherwise ignore. 360i’s spot, with production company Mssng Peces is pretty funny and well worth a view, noting similarities between the two unsung bacons. Stick around for credits after the jump. continued…

Kevin Bacon’s Brother Michael Does Ads for Turkey Bacon in Union of Less Famous Bacons

Brad Pitt's brother did it. Now it's Kevin Bacon's brother's turn.

Michael Bacon, the less famous of the Bacon brothers—though not entirely unknown, as he is one-half of The Bacon Brothers, the band—has signed up for an amusing campaign by Oscar Mayer to advertise another less famous bacon: turkey bacon.

The video below, from 360i, sets up the goal of the campaign, which is to get people to follow Michael on Twitter and catch his more famous actor brother. (This will be a challenge. Kevin has about 431,000 followers. Michael currently has about 1,300.)

"We really feel for Michael, and we want to support him as much as possible," says Tom Bick, senior director of integrated marketing and advertising at Oscar Mayer. "You just have to embrace each one for its own individual qualities. And that's what we do with our entire line of bacon products—each one is spectacular, because it's made by the bacon experts at Oscar Mayer."

Being used almost literally as a piece of meat doesn't seem to bother Michael, though. Good luck to him.

Roy Choi, Michael Voltaggio, Nguyen Tran Hack Oreos for 360i

360i tapped L.A. celebrity chefs Roy Choi, Michael Voltaggio and Nguyen Tran (of Starry Kitchen) for a new campaign for Oreos.

Created in collaboration with production company Decon and directed by Claire Cottrell, the series features “Oreo hacks,” with the chefs repurposing the sandwich cookies in inventive, delicious ways. Choi, who you may remember was recently featured in a Google Glass spot, crumbles Oreos into a chicken tender crust that seems like a delicious late night snack. Voltaggio, meanwhile, transforms the cookies into dessert tortillas, accompanied by a shandy created with Lemon Oreo creme. Chan comes up with an “impulse hack” based on other items found in a convenience store, combining Oreos with pound cake, cherry soda and salted peanuts to make a kind of bread pudding. Before introducing their recipes, each chef waxes nostalgic on eating Oreos growing up and shares their different methods of consumption (Voltaggio is an Oreo puller, while Choi is more of a traditionalist). It’s a fun campaign, and should help shed a different light on the brand — especially since the videos point viewers to Oreo’s Tumblr, where they can get the recipes for the Oreo hacks. Stick around for Voltaggio and Tran’s Oreo hacks and full credits after the jump. continued…

‘Wake Up and Smell the Bacon’ With Free Alarm Gadget From Oscar Mayer

In case you haven't experienced the surreal delight of being guided from slumber by the smoky allure of "the nostril's north star," then Oscar Mayer might have the alarm clock for you.

The brand's "Wake Up and Smell the Bacon" promotion will give out 4,700 bacon-scented smartphone attachments over the next month. Winners can use the gadget with a branded alarm app that wakes you with the aroma of sizzling bacon.

Oscar Mayer and agency 360i deserve bonus points for the self-indulgent and rather hilarious video below announcing the giveaway. "When imagination blossoms," the Scandinavian narrator intones, "only this scent will guide you to your greatest awakening."

Giving out 4,700 devices might sound generous, but it's a crafty long-term play for profitability. If you're going to wake up daily to the smell of bacon, you're going to make damn sure you always have bacon in the house.
