Harassment Allegations Punch Wind Out of Wynn Resorts


Wynn Resorts Ltd. faced calls to oust or investigate Chairman and founder Steve Wynn over allegations he sexually harassed numerous women who work for him.

Wynn investor Richard “Trip” Miller, managing partner of Gullane Capital Partners, recommended an outside investigation, similar to six years ago when Wynn Resorts hired former FBI chief Louis Freeh to probe claims that company co-founder Kazuo Okada had bribed foreign casino officials. As result of that report, Wynn Resorts unilaterally bought out Okada’s shares.

“These are darn serious allegations,” said Miller, whose company is based in Memphis, Tennessee. “We would welcome someone like that coming back and doing a full investigation.”

We Hear: McCann Eliminated From ALDI U.S. Review

ALDI is in the midst of a review of its U.S. account and incumbent McCann Detroit has been eliminated in the process, according to sources with direct knowledge of the matter. Sources claim Leo Burnett is among the finalists in the review.

McCann declined to comment. ALDI U.S. has yet to provide a statement as of publication time.

ALDI spent just over $51 million on measured media in the U.S. in 2016 and $40 million in the first six months of 2017, according to Kantar Media.

ALDI named McCann as lead agency for its U.S. account back in 2009. The agency brought on Gary Holme as senior vice president and creative director on the account in 2015, but he appears to have left the agency a year and a half later.

McCann Manchester has long handled ALDI’s advertising in the U.K. and retained the account following a review in 2016 which included Mother, JWT, M&C Saatchi, and  Havas. In 2015, McCann Worldgroup Germany was named AOR for ALDI Nord.

Clydesdales loyalists (this writer among them) will be sorely disappointed come Super Bowl Sunday. For the first time in 17 years Budweiser will not feature the beloved horses in its big game ad, E.J. Schultz reports. Instead, its 60-second spot will promote Anheuser-Busch’s philanthropic water giveaway program. The canned water donation initiative is activated in the wake of natural disasters, like the hurricanes that ravaged Texas and Puerto Rico last year. (The Clydesdales won’t be totally gone, at least: They’ll be featured in a video that will run online next week.)

AB’s Stella Artois brand will also focus on water with a spot starring Matt Damon, the first ad of the game to be pre-released, back in mid January.
