Zulu Alpha Kilo Feels Awkward Around Nestea

Nestea has huge cans.

That’s what we take from this latest campaign by Toronto agency Zulu Alpha Kilo, which chose to emphasize the size of said cans and the amount of precious cargo within by extending some of the most awkward possible moments for its teenage protagonists.

The agency, which most recently caught our attention with its brilliant “app to improve agency efficiency“, could keep going with this theme indefinitely.

The potential for embarrassing hilarity would be even greater if the client were, say, Four Loko. Unfortunately, that product as we once knew and not-quite-loved it is no more–and promoting it to its real-world target audience would have been illegal anyway.

Second spot and credits after the jump.

Comcast Apologizes for Rude Customer Service Rep Who Wouldn't Let Customer Quit

Comcast said it was “embarrassed” after a customer a husband and wife tried to cancel their cable service with the company but was met with a very aggressive customer service representative.

The conversation that ensued, in which the customer service rep relentlessly demanded why they wanted to disconnect, went viral after the husband, Ryan Block, posted a recording of it on SoundCloud.

In the recording, which runs more than eight minutes, the rep asked Mr. Block multiple times why he was leaving Comcast. When Mr. Block declined to provide a reason, the rep went on a rant touting Comcast’s fast internet speeds and questioning why Mr. Block would want to leave “the No. 1 rated internet service, No. 1 rated TV service, available.”

U.S. Car Manufacturers Distance Themselves from ‘Soccer Mom’

It was only a matter of time before the suburban stay-at-home mother of 2.5 kids decided that she wasn’t fond of the moniker “Soccer Mom.” After all, her little ones are into Lacrosse now.

Arguably, the reason for the desired change is the stereotypical choice for transportation. What do all “soccer moms” drive? Minivans.

Yahoo's Second-Quarter Earnings in Three Charts

Reputation-wise, Yahoo has come a long way since Marissa Mayer took over as CEO in July 2012. Revenue-wise, not so much.

Heading into the second quarter of 2014, Yahoo’s overall revenue had experienced five straight periods of year-over-year decline. And Yahoo’s display advertising business had gone six straight quarters without achieving year-over-year growth.

The story stayed the same in the latest quarterly results, which came out today, extending those streaks for another three-month period.

Biosom Hearing Guardian

Biosom

ABC and Magna Global Test Programmatic Digital Video Buying

Magna Global has agreed to buy some digital video ad inventory from ABC this summer using a new level of data-driven targeting and automated purchasing, a test that marks ABC’s first programmatic sales of digital video.

The eight-week trial, which will run from about mid-July through early September, is designed to assess the technology and efficiency of the system, said Todd Gordon, exec VP-head of U.S. investment at Magna Global, a media agency and forecaster that belongs to IPG Mediabrands.

It will involve inventory in streaming versions of top TV programming. But it won’t include certain elements that are often found in programmatic ad buying, such as real-time bidding. Magna Global and ABC, for example, negotiated a price ahead of time. The companies declined to provide financial terms of the deal.
