TN Reklame: The Dantone Guide

TN Reklame

Finding the right linguistic nuances when communicating is of course just as important as finding the right colour. Which is why we have developed The Dantone Guide, a chart that introduces nuances in the Danish language (the examples have been translated). From PEACE, over UNREST, to WAR. From FINANCIAL CRISIS, over ZERO GROWTH, to UPTURN. The colours of the words follow the actual Pantone scale and the colour of each concept matches its subject. So that matters related to emotions are red/pink, financial issues are blue, environmental issues green and so forth.

Sylvain Chomet Latest to Gain Invite to Animate ‘The Simpsons’ Couch Gag

Th1ng director/animator Sylvain Chomet received a personal request from The Simpsons creator Matt Groening to animate the iconic “couch gag” that concludes the opening credits of the show, now entering its 26th season. Obviously, you don’t turn down a personal request from Matt Groenig, so the three-time Oscar nominee Chomet offered up a distinctly French take on the gag, which was just revealed online today.

Chomet joins an illustrious list of individuals invited by Groening to animate the sequence, including Bill Plympton, Banksy, and Guillermo Del Toro. Indeed, in recent years the couch gag has all too often overshadowed the rest of the episode. Executive producer Dominic Buttimore (Bart Simpson would have a field day with that one), a longtime collaborator, “worked closely with Chomet to create and storyboard the concept for the animation sequence, which was immediately met with ‘laughter and appreciation’ by Groening and Simpsons’ longtime show-runner/producer Al Jean. Jean went as far as to call the experience a “dream come true.”

The new couch gag (featured above) is one of the show’s best, thanks to some great jokes and Chomet’s inimitable animation style. It will air during the episode “Diggs” this Sunday, March 9th. Stick around after the jump for credits and couch gags from Plympton and Banksy. continued…

Watch the Pot: ‘Drive High, Get a DUI’ Ads Chide Newly Legal Weed Smokers

Colorado is starting an ad campaign to prevent pot users from getting behind the wheel. Instead of vilifying the drug, which Colorado has legalized for recreational use, the campaign takes a light-hearted approach.

In one spot, for example, a young man slowly presses the ignition button on a gas grill over and over, to no effect, while a group of bemused friends looks on.

“Grilling high is now legal,” appears on the screen. “Driving to get the propane you forgot isn’t.”

Tennis Gets Quirky in USTA’s New Ads From the Director of Napoleon Dynamite

Ever wonder what tennis can do for you? Well, for starters, it can make you smarter, stronger, happier, more attractive and pretty much invincible.

The United States Tennis Association doesn't skimp on the specifics of the sport's many benefits to its athletes in this new campaign from DDB New York, targeting millennials. And the messages are delivered in decidedly offbeat fashion, thanks to the inimitable style of director Jared Hess, who made Napoleon Dynamite.

Five short online spots communicate the benefits with quirky visuals and simple factoids—all crisp, clean and slightly off center. The theme is "Tennis Makes You," which works well as a stand-alone line and an introductory phrase.

Judging by the shrimp with the one giant arm, the only question is whether being stronger and being more attractive are mutually exclusive.

What Exactly Was Puma Up to With its Ash Wednesday Stunt?

Puma might’ve had its own way of observing Ash Wednesday with a marketing stunt that placed shrine-like displays on city streets in New York, Boston, Los Angeles and Chicago yesterday.

The prop introduced the company’s new Italy jersey for its 2014 FIFA World Cup campaign, “#StartBelieving.” Fans reveled in the promotional display, jokingly kneeling before the jersey and uploading photos to social media.

Puma said it didn’t mean to play on any religious observances.

New Tribune Publishing CEO Jack Griffin Wants to Develop Company’s Marketing Arm

Tribune Company has named Jack Griffin CEO of its publishing unit, the company said Thursday. His first day is April 14.

The publishing unit, which consists of eight newspapers including the Los Angeles Times and Chicago Tribune, was formed last July when Tribune announced its intention to spin off the papers into a separate public company. Mr. Griffin is now charged with leading this unit into and through the spinoff, which is expected mid-year.

In jettisoning the underperforming unit, Tribune can focus on its more lucrative broadcast properties. It’s a move others have made: Time Warner plans to spin off magazine unit Time Inc. in the second quarter of this year, and News Corp. split last year into a publishing company and an entertainment company.

Olive Garden’s Brand Redesign Poorly Received

460xDespite Darden Restaurant Inc. executives’ reassurances to analysts Monday that they could bring about a ” ‘brand renaissance’ at the Italian chain with a new look and updated menu that presented food with ‘flair and sophistication’ ” the brand redesign has thus far been poorly received. CEO Clarence Otis acknowledged,”We certainly recognize that industry dynamics have changed considerably over past two years,” the AP reports.

The troublesome new logo met with its share of (quite fair, we think) criticism since its release, with shares reportedly down 5% the day of its unveiling. Additionally, according to our tipster, “many consumers are complaining about the new look and feel of the brand.” In case you were wondering, the menu changes include additional small dishes and an option to mix and match pastas and sauces. But we know you’re just there for the unlimited breadsticks anyway.

Here’s a Pretty Amazing Ad That Will Make You Feel Awful, Then Wonderful

This will be a particularly brief writeup, as it wouldn't be fair to spoil the ending of this ad. (The brand seems to know this, too, by keeping the video's title as vague as possible.) Yes, it's called "Unloved," but you'll love it plenty in the end.

Jack Griffin Appointed Chief of Tribune Publishing

Mr. Griffin, who was ousted as chief executive of Time Inc. in 2011, will become the new head of Tribune Publishing in mid-April.

Here’s How, Exactly, Apple Avoids Paying Its Fair Share of Taxes

Plenty of news outlets have written about how certain U.S. tech companies route their revenues through Ireland to minimize their tax payments. But now the Australian Financial Review has some hard numbers related to the controversial practice, having gotten its hands on “10 years worth of financial accounts for Apple Sales International, the secretive Irish company at the heart of Apple’s international tax arrangements.”

Though many of the numbers in the report, by AFR investigative journalist Neil Chenoweth, are specific to the Australian market, they shed light on how extraordinarily advantageous it is for Apple to shift money from its subsidiaries around the world into Ireland — which also, of course, minimizes Apple’s tax burden in its home country, the U.S. “Last year,” the AFR says, “Apple reported pretax earnings in Australia of only $88.5 million after it sent an estimated $2 billion of income from its Australian sales to Ireland via Singapore, where Apple negotiated a secret tax deal in 2009.” (The money sent to Ireland is described as technology royalties and payments for other “intangibles.”)

To put that another way, “Apple Sales International has reported more than $US100 billion of profits in the last five years. Its accounts show it has paid less than 50 cents in tax on every $1,000 of income.”
