Mondelez Plans Big Digital Ad Spending Jump
Posted in: UncategorizedMondelez International is going on a digital-marketing binge as the maker of Oreo and Trident finds a better return on investment online than from TV ads, executives said today at a financial conference.
The company’s goal is to grow mobile and digital from about a quarter of its media budget to more than half of all spending by 2016, Mark Clouse, the company’s North American president said at the annual meeting of the Consumer Analyst Group of New York, held in Boca Raton, Fla. “Digital programming has proven to drive twice the ROI of traditional TV advertising,” he said.
Mondelez spent $198.7 million on measured media in 2012, the latest full year available from Kantar Media. Mondelez has been particularly aggressive on Twitter, including inking a deal late last year with the social media company to deliver “real-time marketing solutions.”

In retrospect, it seems obvious. To get cats to pay attention to your direct mail, just soak the damn fliers in catnip—and watch the kitties lose their minds when the mail arrives.
That's what Vancouver agency Rethink did recently for a cat litter client. As seen in the video below, the engagement with the marketing is undeniable—and pretty cute to watch also.
Owners have been targeted through their pets' olfactory senses before, of course, though in somewhat grosser ways—like the old Animal Planet ads that smelled like urine, placed at the foot of lampposts in the U.K.

On Feb. 15, the Riverdale High School basketball team in New Orleans was on the verge of playoff contention for the first time in 20 years. To celebrate the team’s dedication TBWA/Chiat/Day LA and Gatorade decided to surprise the team with a renovated locker room. Since the renovations were completed while the team was on the court, the new locker room came as a complete surprise. Just as the team is celebrating their victory and the new locker room, Gatorade has one more surprise in store for them…a visit from Miami Heat star, Dwyane Wade. Check out the video above for a pleasant antidote to this dreary Tuesday.
