How About An Angus Beef Hot Pocket? Brand Reinvents After 30 Years


The Urban Dictionary describes them as “the most delicious form of evil.” In a rant viewed more than 2 million times on YouTube, comedian Jim Gaffigan likens them to Pop Tarts filled with “nasty meat,” best enjoyed if you are “drunk or heading home to a trailer.”

Suffice it to say, the Hot Pocket has a bit of a quality-perception problem. But as the Nestle-owned brand turns 30, it’s taking on the criticism with a major makeover and campaign touting better ingredients such as 100% angus beef, hickory ham, white-meat chicken and new crusts with baked-in flavors like garlic butter.

“We appreciate the press,” said Brand Manager Kevin Holmes, alluding to the brand’s well-established place in pop culture. “But we do feel like it’s time for us to change the perceptions of quality for the brand.”

Old Navy Parts Ways With CP&B


CP&B has lost the Old Navy account.

Old Navy confirmed it has parted ways with its agency of nearly five years. It does not appear the retailer will be on the hunt for a replacement anytime soon.

“After a positive working relationship of five years, Old Navy will no longer be working with CP&B,” said Edie Kissko, a spokeswoman for the retailer. “Old Navy has been and will continue to work with a roster of advertising agencies and does not have an agency of record.”

General Motors’ Chevrolet and Fox Sports are going big — really big — for Major League Baseball’s annual All-Star Game festivities.

The two advertisers are planning to launch extra-long commercials during ESPN’s telecast of tonight’s Home Run Derby and Fox’s Tuesday broadcast of the 84th MLB All-Star Game.

As a new sponsor of the “Chevrolet Home Derby,” Chevy will unveil a 3.5-minute spot for Silverado near the end of tonight’s slugging competition. The ode to pickup drivers and their rock-solid values features the song “Strong” by Will Hoge. Chevy’s creative agency Commonwealth, Detroit created the ad.
