Google Introduces Extension Enabling Brands to Add Images to Search Ads

google_image_extention_adwords.png

Google, today, announce the beta launch of an extension that will allow businesses to add images alongside AdWords search ads. Up until now, Google’s search ads have been text only.

Noting that one in sex searches on Google provide results with images, the search giant concludes people want a richer experience and images will do just that. However, the beauty of Google has always been its bare bones simplicity.

While it would seem images could clutter the simplicity of Google search result ads, it does not seem the site will be overrun with silly marketing imagery. On the Inside AdWords blog today, Ad Formats Product Manager Awaneesh Verma wrote, “Image extensions will show in some cases when we determine that a search is likely for visual content. For example, it is more likely that your image extensions will show for a query like luxury car designs than locations of nearby car dealerships.”

Image extensions are only running in English. Brands interested in checking out the option can contact their account manager or fill out this form.

Gezi Park Global Solidarity Rally Page and Content Disappears.

Event page screen shot before being taken down.

A global call for #OccupyGezi solidarity protests went live earlier today. The event page on Facebook gained 5,000 attendees in its first hour.

We’ve been hearing reports since this morning that Gezi park protest event pages and related posts are being taken down by Facebook. Activists from around the world have told us that their messages and even accounts were deleted. We have the proof. The following page has been removed. Translated into ten languages, all that remains is this screen capture.

Here is the text that was removed, print & circulate widely:

8-9 June Call for Solidarity Actions with #OccupyGezi

Calling on all cities of the world! Come out this weekend and reclaim your public spaces to show solidarity with #OccupyGezi and the many waves of protests in Turkey!

What began as a small occupation to protect Istanbul’s Gezi Park erupted within a matter of days into massive protests that spread like wildfire across Turkey. A key trigger was the disproportionate use of force by the police. Just as Gezi Park crystallized the struggle over an ever-shriking public space hijacked by neoliberal authoritarianism, the pepper gas that security forces doused on Istanbul literalized the general need for breathing space – hundreds of thousands of people walked out onto the streets in support of the Gezi Park occupation despite a total media blackout, defying police brutality.

Now we have reclaimed not only Gezi Park but also Taksim Square, the very heart of Turkey’s public sphere, where mass expressions of discontent have repeatedly been banned, throughout the republic’s history. As Taksim and Gezi swell every night with thousands of people who come to celebrate their solidarity, victory and power, our resistance in other parts of Istanbul and other cities across Turkey continues.

Of one thing we are certain: Nothing will ever be the same again.

Show your support and solidarity this weekend, 8-9 June. Reclaim Tahrir, Syntagma, Sol, Zuccotti, your local streets, squares and parks! Trust us, they belong to you.”

The dream of a Global Spring is not dead. It is still in its infancy, kicking and screaming. Look around! This is what democracy looks like. The future is being built as we speak.

Dare to dance without knowing the next step. And then take that step with others. Beijing, you’re next. London, Moscow, Delhi and Ottawa. Then … we retake New York.

P&G Exec Shuffle Sets Up CEO Race

Just two weeks after bringing back Chairman-CEO A.G. Lafley, Procter & Gamble Co. has identified frontrunners in the race to succeed him, giving a set of six executives in their early to mid 50s direct reports to Mr. Lafley, 65.

The moves don’t change P&G’s structure dramatically, as many of the executives largely retain their direct leadership. And none of the moves are promotions, exactly, since the executives remain group presidents.

P&G spokesman Paul Fox said the moves already were in the works under departing Chairman-CEO Bob McDonald and have the full support of Mr. Lafley and the board.

CW Wraps Upfront Sales With Flat Volume

The CW has completed its annual upfront sales process, striking deals totaling volume that is similar to the $400 to $420 million it secured in the last two upfronts.

The network secured CPM increases, or increases in the cost of reaching 1,000 viewers, between 5% and 6%, according to a person familiar with the situation. That’s lower than the 6.5% to 7.5% CPM increases that the network, which is jointly owned by CBS and Time Warner, received in 2012.  The CW made about 75% of its inventory available in the upfront, in line with last year.

The CW has been attempting to broaden its reach, investing heavily in genre shows and sci-fi dramas like "Reign" and "The Originals." Its two female-skewing series, "Gossip Girl" and "90210," are also disappearing from the schedule.

Marketing Hyperbole Is The Absolute Worst Thing Ever

At AdPulp, we’re competing for attention and eyeballs. So I’m quote conscious of the fact that when we write something, the title gets shared on sites like Twitter. If the title isn’t provocative, it won’t get clicked on.

That kind of fear has driven marketing gurus and guru-wannabes to dial up the hype of their own posts and proclamations.

Anyone who’s studied a bit of early and mid 20th century advertising history knows that mindless puffery and hyperbole is part of the industry’s DNA. “New! Better than ever! Now with 20% more magical ingredients!”

Supposedly, through the years advertising professionals got smarter, the audience got savvier, and the work became more genuine. Fewer and fewer people believe the empty-minded claims brands make when declaring superiority over their competitors. So it’s hard for me to comprehend why we perpetuate so much business-related hype when we talk amongst ourselves. Why do we feel the need to scream so loud all the time?

It’s the subject of my new column on Talent Zoo. Which will change the ad industry forever, guaranteed.

Jury Rules in Favor of Interpublic Group in Race Discrimination Suit

A jury has ruled against a Trinidadian employee of U.S. ad holding company Interpublic Group of Cos. who sued the company alleging race discrimination in April 2012.

The suit, in which Joy C. Noel sought $50 million in damages in Manhattan federal court, alleged that Ms. Noel was treated “like a servant” for the many years that she worked under her manager, that she was consistently denied opportunities for career advancement and that she didn’t get a job she wanted — the position of executive assistant to the general counsel — because of her race.

During the course of the proceedings that followed, Interpublic Chairman-CEO Michael Roth’s name was removed from the suit and several claims were thrown out. One claim — that Interpublic refused to promote Ms. Noel, who has worked at Interpublic since 1993, due to skin color — proceeded to trial.

Farting Baby Drops A Wet One in Samgsung’s ‘Swaddle Master’ Ad

swaddle_master_samsung.png

My how far phone advertising has come. No longer are dads idiotic imbeciles who can’t figure out the internet. Nope. They have progressed to masters of the swaddle. Well, that is with a little help from the Samsung Galaxy S4’s Air Gestures and Smart Pause.

Our dad in this 72andSunny-created ad is quite pleased with his swaddle job. That is until junior decides to pump out an epically loud and disgustingly juicy fart.

And if you simply can’t get enough farting babies, you simply MUST watch this compendium of Top Ten baby Farts. We guarantee you will not be able to get through it without laughing yourself to tears. Number three will have you on the floor!

Avanzando rápidamente hacia una Primavera Global

Búsqueda de una Nueva Manera de Ser.

Atenas. Barcelona. Túnez. Cairo. Tripoli. Sana’a. Santiago. Bahréin. Wisconsin. Yo Soy 132. Indignados. Red Square. #OccupyWallStreet. Pussy Riot. Blockupy. Damasco. #IdleNoMore. . . Estanbul.
