Ted Sterchi, webdesigner e artista de Londres, queria começar um projeto pessoal que unisse suas habilidades de desenho e pintura tradicionais às novas fronteiras da tecnologia e da sociedade quebradas pelas redes sociais online.

Inspirando-se no projeto Selfless Portraits – que ilustra fotos de perfis do Facebook e constrói pontes de intimidade entre as pessoas da foto e seus ilustradores – Ted criou o Grindr Illustrated: um Tumblr onde posta pinturas em aquarela baseadas em fotos de perfis dos usuários do Grindr, um aplicativo popular de relacionamento para homens encontrarem homens.

Ele já fez mais de 52 artes, publicadas com as descrições que cada um coloca em seu perfil.

Seu projeto é um comentário divertido e carinhoso do relacionamento na cultura digital, traduzindo com cuidado pixels de fotos tiradas de si mesmo em traços delicados feitos à mão.

Kmart’s Sophomoric ‘Ship My Pants’ Video to Air on TV


America loves a good poop joke.

Kmart’s pun-filled “Ship My Pants” online video has been so popular–netting 12 million views in the span of a week–that it’s now getting ready to debut on TV.

Shannelle Armstrong-Fowler, a spokeswoman for the retailer, said the ad, which was created by DraftFCB, will start running next week on “select cable networks.”

Stipple Looks to Give Facebook-Commerce Another Chance


There’s a long list of companies that have tried — and failed — to make social commerce work, but a startup called Stipple thinks it has the right approach.

A service that lets brands and publishers tag images with digital touch points that show product details, price, related video, and other information if someone clicks on them, Stipple announced at the Ad Age Digital Conference that it will start enabling direct purchases from an image. In other words, someone can buy the Jimmy Choo shoes they see a celebrity wearing in a photo on an entertainment website — or on Facebook and Twitter — without ever leaving the site they’re on.

“When done correctly, it doesn’t even feel like advertising,” said Stipple’s CEO Rey Flemings. “Users are initiating the experience and essentially asking the photo a question.”

Mais uma mágica do Photoshop: Redução de tremidas

Não importa o preço da sua camera, em algum momento o estabilizador de imagens pode te deixar na mão. As indesejáveis fotos tremidas geralmente podem estar arruinadas, mas uma nova função do Photoshop pode resolver.

A Adobe revelou, no vídeo acima, o filtro Shake Reduction, que está sendo desenvolvido para a nova versão do mais popular software de manipulação de imagens. A intenção é salvar fotos borradas, principalmente aquelas tiradas com condições insatisfatórias de iluminação.

Levando em conta a demonstração, feita pela gerente de produto Zorana Gee, parece incrível. Não custa lembrar que o vídeo que anunciava o Content Aware do CS5 impressionou e viralizou na época, mas na prática não é essa coca-cola toda.

Como sempre, talento na hora de produzir o material original continua sendo fator decisivo. Ainda bem.

NYC’s 5 Boro Bike Tour Pulls Ads Showing Pyrotechnics at Starting Line

Following the bombings in Boston on Monday, New York City's 5 Boro Bike Tour is swiftly pulling all posters advertising its own May 5 race—because of now-inappropriate imagery showing pyrotechnics going off at the starting line. "We had these ads all over the city, and beginning today, the MTA is removing all of them," the group's CEO, Ken Podziba, told Gothamist on Wednesday. "We were getting phone calls and emails from people who thought the ads were inappropriate, and we agreed. The last thing in the world we want to do is offend anybody in a time of tragedy." Podziba said the ad space will probably be left blank—"which I guess is a message in and of itself," he said. "Our hearts go out to the victims and their families. We're in solidarity with them."

    

Eva Longoria to Star in Hulu’s Latest Foray Into Original Content


Hulu’s latest foray into original content is a half-hour animated comedy about a disgraced former record exec who flees to the suburbs to give motherhood a try — with mixed results.

Former “Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria plays Rudi Wilson in “Mother Up,” a 13-episode series making its debut this fall on Hulu and on Canada’s City Television. Hulu and Canada’s Rogers Media put up the money for the show, which is being executive produced by Ms. Longoria, former Sony Pictures chief and Mass Animation founder Yair Landau and “Family Guy” and “American Dad” co-producer Michael Shipley.

Hulu acting CEO Andy Forssell and Ms. Longoria previewed the show during Ad Age’s Digital Conference in New York.
