Livestrong Pushes Forward, Unveils New Logo

After its founder Lance Armstrong was publicly revealed to be a cheater, a liar, and a complete and utter dickhead, it was hard to believe the LIVESTRONG foundation would survive the fall-out. After all the charity, which aims to provide free cancer support services for those battling the disease, had its brand so tied to Armstrong’s own story that when Armstrong lost all credibility, it seemed like he would take LIVESTRONG down with him.

Armstrong departed from the organization in fall, leaving LIVESTRONG’s EVP, Andy Miller, to pick up the pieces. Yesterday at the annual LIVESTRONG Foundation Assembly, Miller said in a speech to 500 of the foundation’s members, “‘Will the LIVESTRONG Foundation survive? Yes. Absolutely, yes!” His proof, aside from numbers and stats and all that boring stuff, is a brand new logo (above) that is supposed to symbolize the re-birth of the organization, or something like that one would assume.

You can watch Miller’s speech here, and make up your own mind on LIVESTRONG’s future.

Apaixonante.

We Hear: Razorfish Cuts in Central/SE Region? (Updated)

The numbers have been varying all morning on this one, but we’ve received several reports that Razorfish has cut staffers across departments, across cities ranging from Chicago to Atlanta to Austin.

We’re hearing anywhere from 30-50 staffers (actually, some are saying even 100?!) have been affected. Was it due to the Publicis Groupe-owned agency overbooking staff on the Samsung digital biz? We’re not sure at this point, but the tips have been piling up all morning on this one. We’re of course checking and will keep you posted if and when.

Update: Here’s a quick statement from a Razorfish spokesperson: “As consumer needs continue to shift alongside the digital landscape, we periodically make staff adjustments to guarantee we’re equipped with the skills that match our clients’ changing demands. The recent workforce reduction will ensure continued operational health as we evolve these critical offerings moving forward.  Our capabilities and staffing are now further aligned so that we can continue to effectively deliver solutions at the intersection of technology, media and creative.”

Hoffman to Leave Hoffman/Lewis

After two decades-plus of co-running Bay Area operation Hoffman/Lewis, Bob Hoffman, aka the @AdContrarian is calling it quits, saying in a statement and perhaps is eyeying appointment to the papacy, according to this statement: “I just celebrated my 40th year in the agency business, and it’s time for a change. It’s better to leave 5 minutes too soon than 5 minutes too late. It’s time to reevaluate my professional life. That’s fancy business talk for ‘do something else.’”

Hoffman continues, “The agency has grown almost 30% in the past year, and it’s nice to be able to leave on an up note. I haven’t decided what I’ll do next, but I plan to continue my writing and speaking about advertising. Also, I understand there’s a job opening at the Vatican.”

Hoffman formed his San Francisco-based agency–which has lost its share of notable staffers in recent months–in 1991 alongside Roger Lewis, who subsequently retired in 2004. The departing exec will be succeeded by 19-year agency vet Josh Nichol on April 1 at Hoffman/Lewis, which counts clients including USC, Toyota and McDonald’s.
