Marketing Milk – Got Milk? Goes for (White) Gold

(TrendHunter.com) Spare a thought for plain old milk. When you’re competing with the multi-squillion dollar budgets and cultural ‘cool’ clout of the razzle dazzle marketing of the likes of Coca-Cola and Pepsi, being a fuddy-duddy, unbranded, terminally uncool beverage is tough. Really tough. And marketing the s…

Can owning a television make you happier?

Tv
Better living through television? It’s true, if you credit the results of an international Gallup poll that asked people to rate the quality of their lives on a scale from 0 to 10. In the Americas, TV owners rated their lives at an average of 6.07, vs. 4.47 for the TV-less. In Asia, TV people averaged 5.38, while non-TV people averaged 4.20. In Europe, the gap was 5.80 vs. 5.07. The pattern was similar when respondents were asked to predict how good their lives will be five years from now. Lest you suspect (as AdFreak did at first) that this simply means people who own a TV are wealthier than those who don’t, Gallup noted that “even when comparing people with identical incomes, TV owners still enjoy higher levels of well-being and optimism.” TV programming may be a vast wasteland, but it’s our vast wasteland.

Nature comes out to play in Hummer spot

Here’s a new Hummer spot by Modernista!, that agency with the cool Web site (or crappy non-site, depending on your point of view). After watching the ad, I’ve reached this conclusion: There’s no exciting way to film flowers. That time-lapse stuff doesn’t cut it. I blame the flowers—they just won’t take direction. Here’s a totally unrelated clip for Zoo York from davidandgoliath. Note the talking cockroaches. They’ve got Brooklyn accents. One gets smooshed at the end. And there’s an “adult” version with swearing if you register on the Web site. Maybe if they combined the spots, and had the roaches drive the Hummer—or better yet, if the Hummer smooshed the roaches and the bugs launched into a string of profanities. Both brands would benefit. So, about that Web site …

Teaser Sites – Opulence Luxury Mobile Phones

We thought Vertu, Goldvish and Gresso knew how to make a luxury mobile phone, but with a name like Opulence , a new cell phone company sounds like it could make those other big brands look, well, ordinary in comparison.

The site doesn’t offer much, in fact, nothing at all, but just a teaser that p…

Fans to vampire show: don’t pull up stakes!

Moonlight
When I read that some fans of a certain TV series are actually willing to sacrifice their own blood to get the show back on the air, I had to speak out. It’s not worth it! Sure, it’s a nice idea to team with the Red Cross for a blood drive to attract the network’s attention, but these kinds of stunts never work. Hundreds of fans whittled their ears into sharp points back in ’69, and Star Trek still died. And the ill-conceived “Call 911 to save Rescue 911” campaign rightfully failed. Look, Moonlighting has been gone nearly 20 years. It just wouldn’t be the same. Bruce Willis is bald now. Cybill Shepherd may be too. … What? Oh. I’m told the show in question is something called Moonlight on CBS. It’s about sexy young vampires (also in my utopian vision; do they have a social network yet?). Was Buffy in Moonlight? She was hot.

New Zealand channel 3 “King Kong” – Guerilla

Colenso BBDO, Auckland had an assigment to promote that King Kong the movie was about to air on New Zealand television – so they hijacked the windows of the University cafeteria and somehow managed to stick a poster on the outside of the skyrise building.
