Hallmark is accused of promoting teen sex

Hallmark You’d expect Someecards to mention (even revel in) teenage sex every once in a while, but Hallmark? No way. Yet that’s precisely what Hallmark is doing with the card shown here (copy: “Pardon me … care for some liquid clothes remover?”), according to Cyndi Desrosiers, a New Hampshire mother. No, wait. Actually, it isn’t at all. There’s nothing that refers to teenagers anywhere on the card, and Cyndi, in protecting the sensibilities of her 18-year-old daughter, comes off as one of those people who thought Mighty Mouse was promoting cocaine use every time flower petals went up his nose. However, she is right to point out the irony of a sex-themed card whose proceeds are going to combat AIDS in Africa. On a related note, I would love to see a Hallmark card for teenage sex.

Chicagoans feast on bus-shelter ad snacks

Ampm1 People in Chicago must be starving after the long, cold winter there, as they have ravaged this bus-shelter ad from ampm convenience stores to retrieve the snacks inside. Ogilvy put the ad up with the idea of slowly taking the snacks away over a four-week period, to reveal the tagline, “Too much good stuff.” Area vandals shortened the campaign’s run to two days. Curiously, they didn’t seem to like the Doritos much. See the pre-vandalized ad here.

Let the pros handle the recycled clothing

Cokeshirt_2
Ouch! That smarts! What the hell? Why is this hurting so much? Ow! There goes my navel. I don’t get it. Says right here in Brandweek that I should forget about polyester and rayon. Thanks to Coca-Cola’s promotions department, there’s a new hot fabric for T-shirts. Let me just have another look at that story. … Recycled plastic?! Oh man, I should have read this more carefully. Coke has designed a clothing line from recycled plastic bottles. Guess I shouldn’t have tried have to make my own, using aluminum cans cut into long strips and old-timey glass Coke bottles ground up really fine. Ouch! Actually, my Coke-can shirt isn’t half as bad as these boxers I made out of Schick disposables!

Lonely Planet travels to YouTube

LONDON – Lonely Planet has launched a travel channel on YouTube to complement its own video-sharing website, LonelyPlanet.tv.

Video on Flickr

In Internet time, this is now probably old news:

“Video! Video! Video! The rumours are true and “soon” is now. We’re thrilled to introduce video on Flickr. If you’re a pro member, you can now share videos up to 90 glorious seconds in your photostream.

90 seconds? While this might seem like an arbitrary limit, we thought long and hard about how video would complement the flickrverse. If you’ve memorized the Community Guidelines, you know that Flickr is all about sharing photos that you yourself have taken. Video will be no different and so what quickly bubbled up was the idea of “long photos,” of capturing slices of life to share. […] ”

Rizon_47fd6dc40b8aa.jpg

The 90 seconds limit sounds wierd initially, but they have a fair point. We don’t need more video sharing sites, we need more cool content.

The video interface looks nice. Interesting to see how it goes.
