NFL Is King of the Hill

MINNEAPOLIS (AdAge.com) — Our outburst culture kicked into overdrive late last week, with South Carolina Republican Rep. Joe Wilson, tennis star Serena Williams and music star Kanye West just the latest examples of people losing their cool during our long hot summer of town-hall discontent. Hank Hill, the laconic, conservative character at the center of Fox's "King of the Hill," probably would have just taken it all in, silently shaking his head about today's coarsening culture.

Campanha de cerveja 100% digital

guldmap.jpg

Are Gays Helping Make Your Brand Hot (or Not)?

What's that, you say? Vanity Fair isn't quite gay enough for you? That despite the magazine's well-tuned sense of glamour and camp, despite Graydon Carter himself (that hair! his precious restaurants!), VF is still somehow too … straight? Well, then there's Aaron Hicklin's Out. For this latest installment of Dumenco's Media People — a continuing series of conversations with media grandees — I interviewed Hicklin as he was working on the annual Out 100 (a very Vanity Fair-style photographic portfolio of "men and women who made 2009 a year to remember") and getting ready to host a party tonight in New York City to fete Out's September cover girl, pop provocateur Lady Gaga.

Why the ‘Middle Web’ Matters

As we look at what is on the horizon for mobile, one of the clear trends we will see over the next year or two will be the emergence and acceleration of the "middle web." This is the web that lies between the full web experience you find on a PC and the ad-less web experience you remember from the first web-enabled mobile phones.

Recognizing the CMO’s Role When It Comes to Crisis

Crises are particle accelerators for brands that reveal their fragility. While there are impressive tomes on crisis management, we still are littered with embarrassing reminders of the recurring gap between preparation and accomplishment. It's time to stop repeating the same mistakes when it comes to crisis management. It's also time to recognize the CMO's role in negotiating crises.

Mobile Video Gets Ready for the Masses

SAN FRANCISCO (AdAge.com) — As with everything in mobile, hype precedes reality and mobile video is no exception. Despite being more than 5 years old, it is a nascent medium searching for a mass audience in a fragmented landscape.
