Pour l’ouverture du Red Bull Studio à Paris, Ed Banger nous propose de découvrir sa radio Ed Wreck du 18 au 21 septembre. De 18h à 22h, les artistes du label de Pedro Winter tels que Justice, Sebastian ou Cassius interviennent et distillent du son retransmis en direct, La Ed Wreck Radio se concluera par une Boiler Room.

Quem é fã de Belle & Sebastian vai ficar feliz em saber que tem pelo menos umas 18 músicas “novas” da banda para descobrir. A coletânea The Third Eye Centre vai ser lançada agora em agosto e reúne todos os singles e músicas que ficaram de fora dos discos Dear Catastrophe Waitress (2003), The Life Pursuit (2006) e Write About Love (2010).
Para quem mora na Europa, esses singles não são novidade, já que lá a cultura do disquinho com 2 ou 3 faixas ainda é cultivada e os fãs do velho continente puderam comprar/conhecer essas músicas na época em que foram lançadas.
Como aqui no Brasil esses singles nunca chegaram, esta coletânea significa uma boa oportunidade para os fãs que querem atualizar sua coleção. The Third Eye Centre segue exatamente o mesmo raciocínio da excelente Push Barman To Open Old Wounds, primeira coletânea de B-sides do Belle & Sebastian que foi lançada em 2005 e trazia todos os singles da banda até a época do Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like a Peasant, de 2001.
Além dos singles todos reunidos, o disco traz uma faixa inédita. Eu particularmente não gostei muito, mas estou ansioso para conhecer todas as outras pérolas “esquecidas” dos últimos 3 e sensacionais álbuns dessa banda impecável.

Le réalisateur Matthaüs Bussman a dirigé cette vidéo pour la nouvelle campagne de la marque Red Bull. Intitulée « Defeat » ce spot dévoile un homme parcourant une ville plongée dans la nuit, éclairée par les néons ainsi que l’énergie de différents sportifs. Os escoceses do Belle & Sebastian divulgaram ontem um documentário inédito e bastante completo sobre o processo criativo de seu disco If You’re Feeling Sinister, de 1996.
O álbum – para mim, o melhor deles – é o grande divisor de águas na carreira de Stuart Murdoch e cia. Foi com este disco que eles conquistaram a Europa e viraram os queridinhos da música alternativa do final da década de 90. Já haviam lançado Tigermilk como um trabalho de faculdade e logo depois fecharam contrato com a Jeepster Records.
O documentário faz parte do Pitchfork Classics, programa da Pitchfork TV que revisita discos (já) clássicos. Se você é fã como eu, garanto que vai se divertir muito.

Lá em 2009, o geninho Stuart Murdoch, do Belle & Sebastian, lançou um projeto paralelo chamado God Help The Girl. Era o primeiro grande passo de uma ideia que nasceu em 2003, quando ele começou a compor músicas cujo destino não era sua banda de sempre, mas sim a trilha sonora de um roteiro para o cinema.
Quando terminou de escrever todas as faixas, Stuart percebeu que elas todas formavam o enredo para uma história maior. E o disco God Help The Girl acabou virando apenas o ponto de partida para o filme de mesmo nome, que está em fase de pré-produção agora e deve ser filmado até o fim do ano.
Com a trilha pronta, só nos resta esperar qual é essa grande história que vem por aí. Os personagens Eve, Cassie e James vão ganhar vida na telona, depois de já terem sido apresentados no disco.
No site oficial do projeto, é possível acompanhar um diário escrito pelo próprio Stuart, onde ele descreve o andamento das filmagens, casting, produção, etc, e ler mais sobre a história do filme.
Se o roteiro vai ser tão cativante como são as músicas de seu criador, só o tempo vai dizer. Mas uma coisa é certa: qualquer filme com trilha sonora assinada por Stuart Murdoch já tem um grande ponto a seu favor.

Priya Sebastian completed a Masters in Illustration from Queensland College of Art, Australia and lives in Bangalore. She is a much sought after illustrator and her work adorns the covers and pages of many books, magazines and newspapers.
When she is not drawing, Priya writes, teaches, explores places and blogs about her experiences at her well known blog which is filled with vivid stories, sketches and photographs all of which tie in beautifully with her world view and her drawings.
Why are you an Illustrator?
That’s akin to asking a spider why it is a spider. Or a rhinoceros why it is what it is.
I cannot imagine being anything else. It is an inherent quality. Interpreting an idea or sa story visually gives me a high.
Did you attend school for fine art or design?
Yup. The first one I attended was in Bengaluru. I’m not sure what I did there. Then I went off to Australia to do a Master’s in Illustration from Queensland College of Art. It was a revelation.
You have a distinct style of illustration. How long did it take you to develop your style?
Thank you. I have been illustrating for about 15 years now. My style is still developing and I hope the development never stops.
Were there any particular role models for you when you grew up?
Most definitely Chandranath Acharya who used to illustrate stories in the Sunday editions of Deccan Herald. I wanted to do that too.
Who was the most influential personality on your career in Illustrations?
A teacher in Australia, Armin Greder
Have you worked for any advertising project? Would you like to?
Not as yet but I am open to it if the work interests me.
Are many advertising agencies getting illustrations made these days? Do you work more with agencies or publishers?
I wouldn’t know about advertising agencies. I mostly work with publishers.
What made you decide to become a freelance illustrator? When did you start freelancing?
I think there was no option but to freelance as an illustrator 15 years ago.
Was there any time when you wanted to quit Illustrating?
No
Have you considered turning your illustrations into toys?
Why would I want to go there given the kind of style I have?

Do you have any favorite fellow illustrators or resources relating to your fields?
I was brought up on a diet of American Illustrators during the pre-internet era (yes, there was such an era). Now, much to my relief and thanks to blogs I get to see the style of Latin American Illustrators, Scandinavian Illustrators, Spanish and Portugese Illustrators…it is wonderful to see such a marvellous richness and diversity of styles and talent.
You have such a wide experience as a top working professional. What advice do you have for aspiring creative professionals? Would you advise them to take on Illustration as a career option? Is it paying well enough?
Regarding payment for illustrating, I think one has to ‘make’ it pay. To be a good illustrator, you have to hone your drawing skills and style to a very high standard through dedicated hard work and then you have to value your work enough to ask your client for a dignified fee. I find newspapers still pay some illustrators Rs.1000 per illustration and there young illustrators new to the field who actually accept that. I’d like to tell them that they are not doing anyone a favour by accepting work at such terms.
