Barkley Kansas City Execs Star in ‘The Creation of Adam’ Mural

Today a little birdie tells us that a new mural in the Kansas City offices of Barkley has caused something of a stir.

Seems executives at the “largest employee-owned advertising agency in the US” petitioned an artist to recreate “The Creation of Adam” in mural form starring themselves in the key roles. Here’s the work in question:

The credits: CEO Jeff King, left, stars as Adam with CCO Don McKinney playing the role of God the father.

72andSunny Quotes Pop Culture for Samsung’s New, Curvy TV

72andSunny mined memorable moments in film, TV, and the Internet for their new campaign unveiling Samsung’s Curved UHD TV, called “The Curve Changes Everything.”

The new broadcast spot debuted last night during primetime programing including AMC’s Mad Men,  NBC’s Women of SNL, and the season finale of Fox’s execrable Family Guy, to name a few. The 60-second “The Curve Changes Everything,” mines such sources as Clueless, Jurassic ParkGravity and that screaming goat you saw on YouTube to stitch together “not only excitement for the curve and the experience, but how the curve impacts different family scenarios and living room environments.” 72andSunny worked with production company Caviar, director Rian Johnson (Looper, a couple of great episodes of Breaking Bad) and Oscar-winning cinematographer Claudio Miranda (Life of Pi, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) to bring the spot to life.

“The Samsung Curved TV is just a beautiful object,” said Rian Johnson. “Beyond the quality of the picture, the industrial design of the TV – with its subtle curve – is really stunning when you see it up close in person. We were tasked with finding ways to show off the curve, but you really just need to point a camera at the TV and it pops off the screen. It was a pleasure to shoot.”

In addition to broadcast, the campaign also features print, digital and out of home (OOH) components. “The Curve Changes Everything” will continue to run on major networks, cable and online. Stick around for credits after the jump. continued…

Here’s a Quick Note on Barkley

twa-building

So, we received a few tips this morning that Barkley cut some staff last week and after some inquiry, we received a bit of clarification on the matter from the Kansas City-based agency. Barkley CEO Jeff King tells us, “The staff adjustment affected a few different departments, related to a combination of account loss and, in some cases, existing clients spending less.” No word, though on numbers, as King replies, “Out of respect for those that will be leaving, we will not confirm the number–it would diminish the very real value they have brought to the agency. We will continue to protect them whether they are at Barkley or not.” If that wasn’t admirable enough, the Barkley chief exec adds that the agency will be “employing everyone who was notified through the holiday season” and “will be supporting their job search efforts in the coming weeks and through to the New Year.”

As for the “account loss” part, Barkley wouldn’t get into specific names (foiled again), but we’ve been told that it involves three accounts, which aren’t being confirmed as “privacy was requested from the client.” A Barkley spokesperson adds that “as an employee-owned company, we continually provide state-of-the-business updates internally. Our employees were notified in advance about our client loss, why it happened, and what it means going forward.” On the plus side, of course, Barkley recently won the Spirit Airlines biz (first work to debut in Q1 of 2014) and picked up AOR duties for Vanity Fair lingerie.
