Creature Trades Beef for Beats at Vinyl Storefront

creaturesound

Today, Seattle-based agency Creature (they of recent storefront fame) opened a vinyl record shop in their ever-changing office window where customers can buy records by the pound. It’s a call back to nostalgia for family-run butcher shops and the original small business. You even buy your records out of a deli case and take them home wrapped in butcher paper. The first person to conduct business in Elpee’s Beat Shop bought 10 pounds worth of music. Thankfully, at $1.46 per pound, 10 pounds of “Choice Cuts” records costs much less than 10 pounds of tender ribeye. For the thriftier shoppers, there’s always the “Prime Beats” quality of vinyl selling for $1.03 per pound.

The storefront, with all of it’s Seattle-y charm, will be open weekdays throughout the holiday season as well as the occasional weekend. I’m not sure what kind of records you can buy – one of the press photos shows off a cutely tattered Nat King Cole album – but for a place rooted in music history, I’m hoping there’s plenty of variety. As of the opening, Creature promised 1,000 albums for sale. And if seeing all the butcher paraphernalia makes you hungry, there’s always Meat Loaf.

Bajibot Shares Holiday Video, Complete with Dogs

With less than two weeks until Christmas, the folks over at Bajibot (fresh off designing the beta site for DJ Pierce’s Global Glue Project) have released their holiday video.

Addressed to family, friends, partners, and clients, the 1:25 video offers a look at Bajibot and the folks who work there. The shop’s office seems to have everything a young creative could ever want: dogs, silly string, fancy coffee, more dogs, decorative toys, fridge full of beer, etc. Bajibot’s holiday video could double as promotional video and recruiting tool. We see a lot of these holiday videos, so it’s kind of hard to find something in Bajibot’s that stands apart, but they’ve at least crafted a nice, friendly message for friends and clients. And they have cute dogs.

DirecTV Said Near Renewal of Deal for NFL Sunday Ticket

DirecTV, the largest U.S. satellite TV service, is near an agreement to renew its exclusive deal with the National Football League for NFL Sunday Ticket, people with knowledge of the matter said.

The multiyear contract would let DirecTV keep carrying the out-of-market Sunday-afternoon games it’s had for almost 20 years, said the people, who asked not to be named because the talks are private. While the new pact isn’t final, the outlines are set and it could be announced this month, one person said. A deal would extend the four-year, $4 billion contract that expires at the end of 2014.

With Sunday Ticket, DirecTV would retain key sports programming it can use to fend off competitors and web-based entrants looking for exclusive content. While the company has offered the package since 1994 and is one of the few pay-TV players with national reach, the NFL has said it talked with a wide range of suitors.

New Britney Spears Video, ‘Perfume,’ Sure Seems Like One Big Ad for Her Perfume

"Perfume," the newest single off Britney Spears' latest album, Britney Jean, is ostensibly about a weird love triangle. But what it really seems to be about is selling the singer's fragrance line.

Fantasy—Britney's best-selling perfume—is heavily featured here (it also has a cameo appearance in her song "Work, Bitch"), with Britney playing the "other woman" and singing, "While I wait I put on my perfume / yeah I want it all over you / I gotta mark my territory."

Scenes of Britney spraying herself with Fantasy run throughout the video, inspiring teenagers everywhere to overload the olfactory senses of everyone who passes them in the mall. So was the song written specifically to market her line? I'd guess so, especially since—and I say this as a 1997 BritBrit fan—the lyrics are just awful. Via Mashable.

New ADC ‘Behind the Cube’ Video Features Student Thesis Gold Cube Winner Dani Wolf

The latest installment in the Art Directors Club “Behind the Cube” series features Dani Wolf, winner of the Student Thesis Gold Cube at the ADC 92nd Annual Awards last April for his final project at Bezalel Academy of Arts & Design in Jerusalem.

Wolf offers an intriguing look at the inspiration and process behind his Cube-winning “Disform 2012,” which, if you haven’t already seen it, is a really impressive series of signage-in-motion designed for a music festival. He explains how the inspiration for the project came from music and moving sculpture, and gives a small glimpse into his creative process. Looking back fondly on the experience, Wolk calls the process of spending three months on one thesis project “a one-time chance.” It’s a nice, brief (2:44) look at an impressive project from a young designer who should make waves in the future, but may never again have the opportunity to lavish all his attention on one pet project again. Wolf’s “Disform 2012″ project, and this “Behind the Cube” installment really speak for themselves, so please check out the video above. And feel free to chime in with your thoughts in the comments section.

Kmart’s ‘Ship My Pants’ Gets the Dickens Treatment for Christmas

Kmart and DraftFCB Chicago have put a holiday twist on the retailer’s “Ship My Pants” viral hit promoting the store’s e-commerce site by introducing characters from Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” into the scenario.

Instead of shipping things like pants, in “Ship My Trousers,” directed by Bob Industries’ Zach Math, classic holiday characters like Bob and Mary Cratchit, Tiny Tim and the Ghosts of Christmas Past and Future send off old-timey wares like bloomers, petticoats and wardrobes.
