Farmers Insurance Freshens Its Logo, Keeping Sunrise and Shield

Fifty-five years is a good run for any corporate logo, but now Farmers Insurance is replacing its old mark with a new one—keeping several of the original design elements but giving it a sleeker, more contemporary look. The company's first logo, unveiled upon its founding in 1928, featured a sunrise to represent the optimism of a new day. Thirty years later, a shield was added to symbolize protection. That's the way it remained, until now. The new logo, designed in collaboration with Lippincott in New York, keeps the sun and shield—but otherwise has a whole new look. Farmers CMO Mike Linton tells Adweek that it's a "nice evolution." He maintains that a strong logo is critical in distinguishing oneself in today's saturated insurance marketplace. Farmers unveiled the new logo to its sales force at a big meeting in Chicago last week. Asked if logo debacles like Gap's gave Farmers pause in changing its logo, Linton replied, "We researched this to pieces." The company considered hundreds of options in a process that lasted several months, he added.

IAC’s Romance With Online Dating Deepens As Revenue Grow

Barry Diller’s IAC/InterActiveCorp seems to be in love with its suite of online dating services.

The company — which owns Match.com, OKCupid, Tinder and Europe’s Meetic — beat analysts’ expectations for the second quarter when on Tuesday it reported second-quarter revenue growth of 23%, partly on the strength of its dating sites.

Revenue from Match, Inc. — the umbrella company that oversees the portfolio of dating sites — was $194 million, 9% above the same period last year, and ahead of analysts’ expectations of $193 million. IAC expects that percentage growth to accelerate into the low double-digits during the second half of the year, it said.

Small Business to Win a Super Bowl Spot Through Intuit Campaign

One small business could find itself advertising among the likes of Coca-Cola, Chrysler and Anheuser-Busch during the next Super Bowl as part of a campaign by Intuit.

The company, which makes financial and tax prep software such as Quicken and TurboTax, introduced the effort on Wednesday, casting it as an effort to help small businesses share their stories and promising one winner a national 30-second TV spot in the third quarter of the Super Bowl, which will air on Fox on Feb. 2.

One 30-second spot in last year’s Super Bowl on CBS cost around $3.8 million.

Toyota RAV4: Outdoor website

The new Toyota RAV4 is built for the guys who spend their weekends hiking and cycling, and not behind their computer screens surfing the net. That’s why it made perfect sense to actually take the website to them, and let them explore the new RAV4 in their adventure environment. So, using their mountain bike as a cursor, they navigated their way through a website that didn’t just look like the online version, but acted like it
too.

FAD (Spanish Anti Drugs Foundation): Dance music not for dancing, 3

To create awareness for Young people not to do drugs and drive, three original songs were created by three top djs in Spain, Cristian Varela, Abel Ramos and Dani Moreno, for three real disabled people, Óscar, Jonathan and Jaime. The tracks are based on the very little movements they can do now to dance, so it sounds weird and quite undanceable for the rest of the people. But that is exactly the idea: that no one else has to dance to these songs, ever.
