Senador Volstead: Hidden beer

We needed to launch a new beer in Spain. The insight of the idea came from the name of the beer, that was ironically put in honor of Senator Volstead, who once prohibited the consumption of alcohol. The idea was to go back to that time and hide the beer as they used to in the 20´s, that way making it taste like something prohibited and make people curious about taste it. To promote and to sell the beer we made a special event to find the beer hidden in a books cabinet and a website where that was also hidden. At first sight it seemed to be just an online toy store, full of teddy bears, but with some clues you could find out that resizing the page the real website of the beer would be revealed. After purchase, the delivery was also hidden in a teddy bears box.

At Sony, Investor’s Challenge Brings Unwanted Suspense

Awash in hits, but not in profits, a proud Hollywood studio has suddenly found itself in the cross hairs of an activist investor who wants to spin it off from Sony.

Klout Score of 55 Or Higher? You’re An Admiral!

Social influence is one of those touchy topics that can set me, or any number of other argumentative people, off. Why? Because high school and the need to be popular, like Trix, is for kids.

Or is that a faulty assumption? Do we ever really outrun the need to be popular? Think about it. Who doesn’t want to be liked? Who doesn’t want to be recognized for their gifts?

As you may know by now, Klout is a company that ranks one’s influence in social channels, and ties perks from its partners to one’s score, thereby providing the much needed game layer. For instance, I have a pretty good score right now, which means I can claim a newly introduced, and pretty awesome, perk.

American Airlines The Klout To Win Sweepstakes

Users with a Klout Score of 55 or higher, can gain access to the Admirals Club in one of 40 airports worldwide by going to www.aa.com/klout. You do not have to be an American Airlines passenger to be eligible for this Perk.

In my opinion, this American Airlines perk is a big step up in the value of Klout’s perks program, and thus in Klout itself. While I continue to think it is a poor practice to place too much emphasis on social influence, I feel like it’s easier to take the whole thing seriously when there are real world payoffs like this.

Footnote: I used to say a lot of good my social capital is doing me, since Safeway won’t take social capital at the checkout stand. Perhaps, the tide is turning and we can begin to bank (even in small ways) on the work we do in social channels. Thoughts?

Goodby, Silverstein Brings the Funny for YouTube’s First-Ever Comedy Week

To hype its inaugural Comedy Week, which begins Sunday night at 8 p.m. ET, YouTube turned to an ad agency known for generating its share of laughs: Goodby, Silverstein & Partners. The San Francisco-based shop's New York office whipped up a load of ads (many of them :15s) that have been airing in recent weeks starring the Comedy Week's actors and comedians. Check out a whole bunch of those spots below. (At the bottom is a longer promo with Arnold Schwartzenegger, which YouTube produced in-house, but we have to include because it's awkwardly hilarious.)

Goodby also designed a special YouTube masthead that will run all day Sunday to promote that night's kickoff. It shows a bathroom wall inside a comedy club. You can scroll around, click different doodles and find Easter eggs like Venn diagrams for classic jokes; a mounted moose head who doubts Comedy Week will be funny (he says things like "I have serious doubts about the funniness of this week" and "the humor is very subtle … and by subtle I mean unfunny"); and a phone number—(888) 303-3771—you can call for a good time (if you're not having one already).

The first two-hour live stream starts Sunday at 8 p.m. ET. New shows will air each night this week at midnight ET through Saturday. Guests will include Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Seth Rogen, Comedy Central's Tim and Eric, Conan O'Brien, Rainn Wilson, Ricky Gervais and Sarah Silverman, and YouTube stars The Gregory Brothers, Rhett & Link and Ryan Higa.

The Pirate Cinema, A Cinematic Collage Generated by P2P Users

46k

In the context of omnipresent telecommunications surveillance, “The Pirate Cinema” makes visible the invisible activity and geography of peer-to-peer file sharing. The project is presented as a control room that reflects P2P exchanges happening in real time on networks using BitTorrent protocol. The installation produces an improvised and syncopated arrangement of files currently in exchange continue
