Facebook Seeks 7-Figure Price Tag for Summer Debut of Video Ads

Facebook is hoping that its hotly anticipated video-ad units can be a more-than-$4-million daily business out of the gate — if its asking price is met.

The social network still hasn’t finalized the format of the video ads, but it’s been shopping the product around to agencies, looking to lock down commitments for the first available slots in June or July, according to three executives briefed on the product.

While the format of the units isn’t totally nailed down, it’s widely assumed that they’ll be autoplay and presented in a video player that expands beyond the main news-feed real estate to cover the right- and left-hand rails of users’ screens on the desktop version of Facebook, which Ad Age reported in December. (Facebook has also been at work on a way to make video ads stand out on mobile apps, though it’s still unclear how it intends to accomplish this.)

Ball and Its Mason Jars Get Better With Age — Thanks to Pinterest, DIY

Thousands of people across America are eagerly awaiting a case of the blue Balls.

Jarden Home Brands — which licenses one of the oldest brands in America, Ball Home Canning — has released a limited-edition “Heritage Collection” line to mark the centennial of the innovation commonly known as the mason jar. A commemorative note etched onto each pale cyan glass container is marked with “100 Years of American Heritage” and the year 1913, denoting the date the Ball Brothers, a group of five U.S. industrialists, integrated the construction of the jars so it was no longer a lid made by one person and a jar made by another.

Axe: Shazam TV-integration

Axe is known for its innovation and creativity within online and televised advertising, two media extremely powerful on the target, but above all two very complementary media. Even though many advertisers have connected these two dots, not much has been realized so far in this area.

For the first time, the penetration of mobile internet on the younger male target in Belgium reaches relevant numbers. Shazam is the application they use and like the most.

Idea: Using mobile as the connector between those two powerful media. Using Shazam injecting excitement and extra coolness into the campaign. A first in Europe

And Now, a First Kiss That Smells Like Doritos from Taco Bell

We all remember our awkward first kiss stories, full of nervousness and rapid heartbeats. Based on “First Kiss,” the new 30-second ad in the Taco Bell Live Mas campaign that came through the tips line, we can now add sticky fingers and spicy breath to the list of uncomfortable descriptors.

Mixing Doritos Locos Tacos and kisses may not seem like the best idea, but this spot might strike the right cord for those who value some teenage sentimentality and John Hughes movies. Associating Taco Bell with cuteness is a tough trick to pull off, you know, with the greasy smells and penchant for attracting drunk college guys as a significant customer base, but Deutsch LA and director Zach Math found a way to pull it off. Taco Bell seems to have tapped the right nerve with Doritos Locos Tacos: the product helped create 15,000 new jobs. Maybe the company can use the profits to provide complimentary mouthwash with any purchase, so young lovers who want to make out in Taco Bell parking lots can have pleasant memories.

Credits after the jump.

Dove ‘Sketches’ Examines Women’s Perception of Themselves

dove_beauty_sketches.png

On Monday, Dove released a video entitled Dove Real Beauty Sketches. In the video, several women sit behind a curtain and describe themselves to former San Jose police forensic artist Gil Zamora who creates a sketch of them. They are then introduced to other people who in turn, describe the person to Zamora. Zamora then sketches a version based on that description.

The women are then shown the two versions of the sketches. The exercise was designed to combat Dove’s claim that only 4% of women around the world consider themselves beautiful along with the fact they are their own harshest critics.

The findings are quite interesting. Give it a watch

Belgian Beer Makes American Men Look Like Pansy Ass Wimps

jupiler_beer.png

Men will do anything for a beer. In America, it’s usually something stupid like hiding it in a giant fake swiss cheese so the ladies won’t find it. But when it comes to Belgian beer Jupiler, men don’t pussy foot around. No they team up for some macho, Chuck Norris-like action to get what they feel they rightfully deserve. Even if what happens in this ad amounts to stealing.

But let’s not quibble, the ad is a welcome detour from what has become America’s embarrassingly pansy ass male beer drinker — or at least the pansy ass picture of men painted by American advertising agencies.
