‘Leno,’ ‘Loser’ Win for NBC

MINNEAPOLIS (AdAge.com) — Maybe Michael Moore should have jumped up on stage and protested the top prize going to the Israeli film "Lebanon" at last week's Venice Film Festival. It may not have helped his image, but the controversy may have helped "The Jay Leno Show," as Moore talking about his latest documentary didn't have quite the same sizzle as Kanye West's teary appearance on the program premiere the night before.

Creating the Future of Adland

My blog topic this week is "Not That Anybody Cares, but I Was Just Thinking About the Future of Advertising Agencies." Let me assure you I have not been influenced by facts or research.

Click to Eat: How GoMobo Is Making Ads the New Point of Sale

GoMobo is a New York-based startup that lets restaurant customers order ahead via a website or through a text message. It works with a number of national quick service restaurant chains and their affiliates including Wawa, Subway, Dunkin' Donuts, Papa John's, Quiznos and Krispy Kreme, as well as many independent restaurants. Its "skip the line" premise is a great example of how retailers can use mobile to provide value and utility to their consumers.

Fica a dica.

Health-Care-Debate Advertising Runs Risk of Overexposure

As health-care ad spending nears $100 million and the president makes his rounds on most of the talk shows, is it possible that the American media consumer is on the verge of a health-care overload? Now I know between cable TV, Facebook and a good book (on your Kindle, of course), there are plenty of ways to escape this media onslaught, but it's getting harder to do so and soon may become impossible.

How to Spot Social-Media Snake Oil

Recently my colleague Peter Kim and I found ourselves in close contact with a "social media expert." The problem was this expert was sucking in the feed of my blog without permission, attribution and had more holes in his resume than a slice of Swiss cheese. So how do you separate the social media snake oil from the vinegar?
