These tactics are important — our agency has certainly pounded a stake into that ground — but I fear we're missing some of the more subtle aspects of social influence in this discussion.

MINNEAPOLIS (AdAge.com) — CBS's cancellation of "As the World Turns" marks the end of an era, at least the end of the Procter and Gamble era, in which the company produced soaps in order to sell soap. But as far as soap operas, they're going stronger than ever. Just ask Tiger Woods, who wishes his could be canceled. I thought I'd quantify the rather impressive impact of Gleeks (as fans of "Glee" call themselves) in the Twittersphere — and, to put things in context, I decided to compare the "Glee" Twitter trendline with that of another media-world (and personal) TV favorite, "Mad Men."

Nokia is humanizing itself with a series of videos which highlight people using technology for the greater good of people around the world

Friends of Cancer Patients asked them to raise awareness about the risks of over-exposure to the sun, which causes skin cancer killing 20 people daily. They came up with an ambient idea to highlight this fact: 300 beach towels, shaped like coffins, were displayed around the beach and distributed among the public. The initial reaction of the beach goers was shock, followed by an instant appreciation of the gesture; many of them even asking for free sunscreen.
